The appeal

The Peugeot 205 CTi was seemingly overshadowed in its day by the enormous popularity of its tin top stablemate, however if you take the legendary hot hatch and remove its roof surely that’s a recipe for huge fun and appeal. Well that’s exactly what the CTi offered, with all the same fun and sporty attributes of the hard top but with added headroom, miles and miles of it.
This example is the rarer 1.9L model that has been lovingly cared for and preserved in fantastic condition, with a full-service history and backstory. Surely one kept in as good a condition as this represents a tantalising prospect for future enjoyment and investment.

The history & paperwork

  • Full suite of owner’s manuals
  • Original sales delivery sheet and warranty document
  • Main dealer service history
  • Optional power steering, power hood and power windows
  • V5C
  • Stack of parts invoices
  • MOT certificates from 1995 to date
The history with the CTi is comprehensive and complete with its records full and in detail from its initial sale. The car was dealt with mainly by the dealership that sold it initially and has only passed through 4 owners including the current one.

It has also received some light sympathetic recommissioning, consisting of a new original specification hood, refinished alloy wheels, new Yokohama tyres, replacement rear axle beam (due to a seized bearing, a common issue on these) and various mechanical items attended to, all of which are highlighted in a recent invoice.

The Interior

  • Fantastic original condition
  • No visible stains, rips, tears or excessive wear
  • Leather and plastic trim in great condition
The interior of this CTi almost defies belief, knowing the car is 29 years old you’d be forgiven for thinking this was a recent restoration piece. It does have low owners and low mileage which go a long way to explain the state the car is in but it’s still wonderful to see a car that has been so lovingly preserved such as this.
The interior trim is in fantastic condition and the photos showcase this well, that iconic bright red carpet jumps out at you having kept its vibrant colour over the years. Red highlights start to peek out at you around the cabin also. The steering wheel is in fantastic condition too with CTi instead of GTi adorning the centre. All major touch points in the car have little wear on them and the things that usually deteriorate first, driver’s carpet, steering wheel, gear lever etc are all in great condition still.
Everything is reported to be working in terms of electricals including the power hood and power windows.

The Exterior

  • New original specification hood
  • Refinished alloy wheels
  • New Yokohama tyres
  • Fantastic condition paintwork
  • Plastic trim in great condition also
Kept garaged all its life, the little Peugeot looks fantastic with both roof up and down, the paint is reported to be in excellent condition with little to no wear/damage anywhere on the body. The plastic wheel trims which were iconic to the GTi/CTi are in good condition as well with them looking to have plenty of life and lustre all the way round the car.
The recently refurbished alloys and new Yokohama tyres finish off the exterior look of the car beautifully. The hood is tight and is keeping good shape when up, the rear window is free from hazing or scratches/rips, the power folding mechanism is also reported to be working as are the power front windows.

The Mechanics

This CTi comes with the desirable 1.9L engine, which has only covered 76,560 miles since new and has also had replacements for any parts that have needed replacing. This really does seem to be a no expense spared love affair with this little French hot hatch cabriolet.
Under the bonnet and things are much the same as they are with the rest of the car, completely original and in great condition. It is very clean under the bonnet with no signs of any fluid leaks or even road grime, all plastic piping and wiring looks to be in good condition with no splits or exposed wires. It’s a neatly packaged unit but if the exterior condition of the engine in any represents the internal condition, then this engine is set to live on for a long time yet.
Underneath the body there are more nice surprises in terms of condition, with the new rear beam and suspension looking to be in great condition, an important part of this great handling car. There is a full spare that has been given the same treatment as the rest of the alloys with what looks to be a similarly new tyre. The exhaust looks to be recently now too with the delivery stickers still on the rear silencer.
The condition of the parts and metal work underneath looks to have had some preventative paint treatment with very little of the surface corrosion you often see on cars forced to endure the salt treated wet roads of the UK.

Summary

This is a fantastic example of the 205 CTi and one that has had plenty of care, effort, and financial input to preserve it in this state for 29 years. Whilst not as desirable in the market as its hard top counterpart, it’s hard to think of any reason why this model shouldn’t be given the same dues.

This could be a great investment should the CTis see the same market growth as the GTis, but forgetting boring financial reasons, this is a car you buy with your heart and to have all the best bits of the GTi with no roof; sounds like a great idea to us.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
