1994 GMC Z71 CK1500 Square-body

Highlights

 • Rare Z71 package
 • Huge amount of history
 • Same ownership for the past 18 years

The Appeal

Who doesn’t love an American truck? And when they’re presented in bright red, lifted miles off the floor, and fitted with a huge 5.7L V8 they make every other car on the road look basic. For the past 18 years, this truck has been looked after properly by the current owner, receiving ‘everything it could need’. This preventative maintenance schedule now means it is present in excellent condition with only a few small dings here and there.

Not only does this truck look good it goes well too, with the rare Z71 package fitted from the factory it has an extra 12hp it is also fitted with a fruity exhaust so you can hear the V8 properly. Along with the Z71 package comes a rare manual feature and an even rarer step-side bed design.

With mountains of torque, it is the perfect candidate for someone who wants something different to tow their caravan or race car. Have no doubt this will be an excellent addition to your collection.

The History and Paperwork

 • First purchased in Canada in 1994 the first owner specified this truck in a very rare-to-find combination.
 • Fitted with the Z71 pack, a 5-speed ‘wide ratio’ manual, and step side bed it is highly rare, especially in the UK
 • Imported into the UK in October of 2003 the current owner has looked after this car since November of the same year
 • To help plot the life of this truck there is a large history file, most impressively every single MOT certificate has been kept since its arrival in 2003
 • The mileage reported at the first MOT in 2003 was 134,338 KM or roughly 83,000 miles. Since then, it has covered around 20,000 miles
 • To make sure this truck was always in tip-top shape the oil have been changed every 3,000 miles
 • The regular maintenance has prolonged the life of the car. It still has its original engine and gearbox
 • Along with the original engine, this truck still has its original factory trim and tool kit, it also has two sets of keys
 • Along with all the old MOT certificates, there is a current V5c present too along with a stack of other invoices
 • The current owner did provide an extensive list of items that have been replaced or upgraded, sit tight because it’s a long list
 • This truck has been fitted with the following new parts, a new alternator, battery, distributor, high output coil, all the engine sensors have been replaced, a hyper-tech power tower, power chip, and power charger
 • A new fuel pump, spark plugs, air filter, EGR delete, serpentine belts, pulleys, front and rear LED lights, stainless steel grille and GMC badge, a new clutch assembly, and slave cylinder
 • We’re still going, about halfway through the list now
 • Looking at the brakes, the rear brake drums, slides, and cylinders, front to rear brake lines and hoses have been replaced. Front grooved and drilled discs, new front pads, and braided front lines.
 • New sky-jack front shocks have been fitted, along with 4 Mikey Thomson 8x15 alloys, 4 general grabbers 33” AT2’s, stainless steel shorty headers, track rod ends, o/s/f wheel bearing, a new outer CV boot, heavy-duty rear bump stomps, and new front stops
 • So, this is the end of the list for parts that have been installed over the past 18 years
 • There are many other new parts that will go with the truck, some of which include a new clutch assembly, front wheel bearing, and steering box arm.
 • With so much love and attention lavished over this truck for the past 18 years, it is no surprise that it is presented in such great condition.
 • Now ready for the next owner to enjoy it will be the perfect different workhorse or showpiece.

The Interior

 • All original interior
 • Incredibly comfortable – like driving a lazy boy
 • The carpets are in great condition
Presented the same way it left the factory in 1994 the interior of this rare truck is in great condition with only small areas of damage, but these do not detract from the overall visual condition. If you like your interiors red, then you will love the interior of this truck.

If there is one excellent part of this interior, it would be the bench seat. Sitting in this seat feels amazing and your passenger could easily fall asleep in a matter of minutes with the relaxed seating position and well-sprung bases. There is a small area of damage to the driver’s seat, it appears to have been caused by a lit cigarette, but it doesn’t take away from the overall comfort.

Along with the comfortable seats the door cards are also finished in the same plush material which allows you to take in the full American driving experience with your arm out the electrically operated window on a warm summer’s day.

To match the condition of the seats and door cards, the headlining and carpets are also all original and in great condition. The current owner has made sure the carpets stay like new by using heavy-duty over mats and thanks to this hindsight they still look excellent.

All of the interior trim is as you would expect, in really good condition, there are no obvious cracks or scratches to the silver plastics. The displays light up when the car turns on and it feels like you’re sitting in K.I.T.T. with all of these retro-looking green LCD screens.

When out cruising in top gear the interior is fairly quiet with a slight rubble coming through the cabin from the 5.7L V8. But once you manually drop it down a gear and give it some beans the whole cabin fills with one of the best noises known to humankind, a big V8.

Have no doubt the interior of this rare truck is in great condition, whoever is lucky enough to own this truck next will be doing it in great comfort.

The Exterior

 • Fitted with Mike Thomson rims
 • Step-side bed
 • Sort after square body style
Towering above any comparable English pick-up the exterior of this GMC is present in good condition, with a few marks here and there, but it is a working truck. Some could say that these marks add to its story.

This truck is visually striking, let’s just say you will not lose this in a car park, thanks to its bright red paint, huge all-terrain tyres, and massive bull bar at the front. Along with the front bull bar, the rear bumper is also made of steel and incredibly rugged. The rear bumper has also recently been repainted at the end of 2021.

As you could expect from a working truck there are a few marks on the paint, most notably a few paint chips on the driver’s door and a patch on the rear right wheel arch that the current owner thinks is due to some water getting under the lacquer and making it hazy. They also stated that it used to be worse than this but since the weather has got warmer it has almost dried out and got better.

Not only is this truck a sort after square body it also has a step side bed section. With notches cut out for easy side access, it is a distinct body style that also looks great.

To aid with visibility the current owner has fitted new LED taillights and headlights, with an additional third LED brake light just above the rear window. That rear window also slides open too which was apparently an expensive option back in 1994.

As you can see the truck sits on four amazing Mikey Thomson rims, all of these rims are in great condition with big General Grabbers fitted too.
The current owner has used this truck as a towing vehicle so they made sure that all of the tyres fitted to this truck were the best they could get.

Overall, the exterior condition of this truck is rather good with only a few age-related marks here and there which definitely do not take away from how good it looks overall.

The Mechanics

 • Still has its original 5.7l V8
 • Has a 5-speed wide ratio gearbox
 • This car can either be civilised or raucous – it’s the best of both worlds
Mechanically this truck is an out-and-out American, it has been fitted with a huge 5.7L V8 with is incredibly torquey and with its wide-ratio gearbox, it is as good at towing as it is at cruising in its fifth gear. The current owner has been very sympathetic with this truck maintaining it amazingly well.

As you have already seen throughout the ‘Paperwork and History’ section this truck has received lots of new parts during the current ownership, but probably the most important factor is that the engine oil has been changed regularly.

Out and about this is a great truck to drive. If you want it to be docile it can be, but if you want it to be raucous then all you need to do is drop a gear and it will wake the dead through the stainless-steel shorty headers and side-exit exhaust.

With the amount of preventative maintenance completed on this car throughout the years, it is no wonder that it is such a great car to jump in and just drive anywhere. The next owner of this truck will have one great piece of mechanical engineering.

Summary

This truck has so much going for it. With its rare specification, huge V8, and comfortable driving characteristics, it is unlike any modern vehicle. Thanks to the current owner’s rigorous mechanical maintenance schedule this truck will be a great workhorse or motorway cruiser for the next owner.

If you like your vehicles unique then this is a great proposition for you, do not miss out on this one.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.
