If there was ever something which the French automotive industry could be relied on for, it would undoubtedly be, small, economical, stylish hatchbacks, and the Peugeot 205 is an excellent case in point.
Impressively simple, effortlessly cool, and endlessly reliable, the 205 ticked all the boxes Peugeot’s clientele could want with confidence and as such throughout time has acquired something of a cult status in the classic and retro car world.

The Exterior
- Simple yet iconic styling
- In excellent aesthetic order
- Great factory red paintwork throughout
- Beautiful white steel wheels all round, which really set the car off from an aesthetic perspective
- Some minor signs of age to be seen in various places, most notably some small stone chips and some dents around the passenger door which don't appear to have tarnished the paint
- Good quality plastic trim exhibited throughout the car
- Front and rear bumpers are in great clean shape
- Rear mounted tow bar which comes with removable rubber cover
The Mechanics
- Excellent Peugeot diesel engine, famed for its longevity
- Maintained to an incredibly high standard, this 205 is in brilliant mechanical order
- Sills and inner wheel arches appear clean and solid and are still rich in red paintwork
- Engine and engine bay appear in good clean shape
- Indicated timing belt change in April 2021 with mileage at 105 thousand, meaning the car has covered just two thousand miles since this major belt replacement
- The car starts comfortably and in no time settles into a comfortable idle
- Diesel engine provides excellent fuel economy
- 5 speed manual transmission which feels smooth and crisp upon gear changes
Summary
No one does simplicity in motoring quite like the French and this wonderful little 205 really helps to cement that notion. Simple styling, simple underpinnings, it's a recipe that just works.
