The Appeal
Here we have a very highly specified E38 BMW 7-series long wheelbase edition, fitted with the potent 5.4-litre V12 and just about every extra possible. This was very expensive when new – over £80,000, in fact – and sold in very limited numbers. It was rare then and is rarer still today, especially in such superb condition, with a fine history and genuinely low mileage.
It was always intended as a car for BMW’s most valued clients, with the expectation that they would have a chauffeur to drive them while they reclined in the sumptuous rear. Nevertheless, this is a car that delivers real supercar performance when required and has a truly dynamic chassis.
This example is a remarkable survivor, being tremendously well-preserved and having been well cared for from new. With a great history, exceptional specification and that sonorous V12 drivetrain, there can be no better way to experience BMW's blend of luxury and performance than in this exceptional 7-Series.

Sumptuous leather is perhaps to be expected in a high-end BMW, but that’s only the beginning where this 750 is concerned. The original Sand Beige leather is in excellent condition both front and back, having mellowed nicely without acquiring any significant wear or damage.
The soft, red floor mats complement the Royal Red exterior very nicely and, presenting as new, still wear a rich hue with no marks that we could see. Similarly, the headlining is in excellent order while all the door trims present very well.
All of the switchgear and controls, including the dash, steering wheel and centre console are likewise in superb order. We would draw particular attention to the walnut trim for its wonderful patterned inlay. In fact, the only minor note is that one of the ashtray lids does not open, otherwise the trim is in excellent order.
We are advised by the vendor that all of the cabin's features and functions are in full working order, which is most impressive. The one exception is the television as it was made to receive analogue signals, which are no longer broadcast. We have seen that the radio, satellite-navigation and courtesy lights all work.
The generous boot is wonderfully clean inside and features a spare wheel in good condition as well as a full, complete, original toolkit – quite the rarity!
The Exterior
Royal Red Metallic paint
18-inch Style 37 'M-Parallel' wheels
Double glazed windows
Excellent overall condition
This 750 presents very well for a near 24-year-old car. This is no doubt largely due to how well it has been cared-for, and the gentle use it's been put to.
Still resplendent in its Royal Red Metallic, the paint is almost unblemished. All of the body panels look to be straight and clean, with no evidence of corrosion apparent. The brightwork has a fine lustre, while all the glass elements are in very fine order, with no damage we could see. Minor scuffs around the bumpers, but otherwise nothing to note.
Also of note are the smart 18-inch Style 37 'M-Parallel' wheels – another extra which suit the 750 extremely well and appear to be in excellent condition.
Looking under the car, we see the floors and sills looks to be very tidy and straight, with no significant corrosion or damage to mention. Similarly, the drivetrain components we could see all look to be in fine fettle.
The Mechanics
MOT until November 2023
5.4-litre V12, driving the rear wheels
Automatic transmission
Recent new radiator and refurbished fuel tank
Fine maintenance history
Less than 77,000 miles from new
As you'd expect from such a low-mileage car, the vendor tells us that the it starts, runs and drives like a dream. We can certainly confirm that it fires up immediately with nice, crisp, power-assisted steering and fine brakes.
Although electronically limited to 155mph, with 322bhp on tap from its splendid V12 it will get there quickly, smoothly and quietly too. Thanks to its five-speed ZF automatic transmission, near-silent running and excellent soundproofing, it's a cosseting and opulent experience.
The good condition of the car is down to the fact that it has never been neglected, with money always spent on it when necessary. It benefits from a comprehensive BMW service history, up to 63,935 in 2015. Since then it has been maintained by independent garages. It was most recently serviced in 2020, just 800 miles ago.
New suspension arms and tie rods have been fitted during the current ownership, and in 2017 the rear lower ball joints were renewed, along with the centre steering rod, while the rear brake discs were stripped and overhauled. A new radiator was fitted in 2018, followed by extensive work in 2019 which included refurbishment of the fuel tank, a new offside rear top suspension arm, new rear brake hoses and a fresh coat of WaxOyl underneath.
Summary
Even compared to other luxury cars, this BMW 750iL is truly exceptional. It presents supremely well having been kept in excellent condition and factory specification. As a result, it shows minimal evidence of its age.
In fine mechanical health, it promises to be an eminently usable modern classic around town or on the motorways and, once you’ve got a taste for its sporting prowess and luxury, you probably won’t want to go back to anything else.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
Auto-bidding increments
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.
