When Jaguar bolted a supercharger onto its already brilliant X300 saloon, it created one of the finest cars in the world – or in the eyes of former BBC Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, the BEST car in the world. That’s an opinion that he stands by to this day, over quarter of a century since he owned an XJR himself.
It’s easy to see why. With a screaming supercharger and 375bhp in the case of the early V8s such as this one, it’s a phenomenal performance car as well as a sumptuous and stately one.
This one is based on the X308 V8-engined Jaguar XJ, introduced in 1997 and visually similar to the early XJ6-based Rs, but with a supercharged version of the AJ-V8 engine.
It’s in absolutely stunning condition, having been carefully looked after and maintained by a classic car specialist friend of the owner’s for the past few years and has been in the care of its current keeper for the past 17 years.

There’s no denying that 1990s Jaguars are really rising to prominence in the modern classic market at the moment – great to drive, not too difficult to maintain and timelessly elegant, their appeal compared to more modern Jaguars is easy to see and the XJR is the pinnacle as far as the brand’s saloon cars are concerned.
This one is a great example – a really smart XJR in a fabulous colour scheme, with a superb back leather interior and very smart coachwork. It’s a lovely example of an increasingly rare modern performance icon.
