1999 Mini Cooper Paul Smith

Highlights

• 1 of 300 UK limited editions
• British Isles and 24K Bonnet emblem both present
• Excellent condition

The Appeal

This special edition of the Mini Cooper was a collaboration with the well known British designer Sir Paul Smith. It has an exclusive blue paintwork, dark Minilite wheels with chrome rims, a black leather-trimmed interior, the very unique bright citrus green finish on the rocker cover, HT leads, boot lining, glovebox lining, and fuel tank. It was also equipped with twin driving lights, a very striking 24-carat gold bonnet badge and the iconic British isles grill emblem.

Of the over five million Minis produced, only 1800 Paul Smith special editions were built, with only 300 of those designated for the home market, and only available in blue - making this a very rare and highly collectible car!

The History and Paperwork

• V5 Present
• Lots of original documentation

This car comes with loads of fantastic and original paperwork, including the Paul Smith owners pack with the brochures. Also included is the original service booklet, with loads of receipts for servicing and work carried out. The vendor has spared no expense and has had plenty of work carried out to ensure the long life and condition of this collectible mini is maintained.

The Interior

• Clean with little sign of wear
• Paul Smith black leather seats

The Paul Smith designed interior in this mini is a very timeless, retro place to be. The black leather seats and matched leather pocket door cards, which are only available on this model, are in excellent condition and really set off the Blue paint very nicely. The factory option blue floor mats are a wonderful extra and the iconic bright green accent colour can also be found in the glove compartment!

Also featured is a boot board, which only appeared on the 60’s Coopers and the 90’s Cabriolet. Everything works as it should, and there are only very minor signs of wear to be found around the interior, certainly nothing that would detract from the cars overall feel and the wear, that is present is genuine and gives a timeless retro-designer feel while still being very well looked after. The magnolia clocks with the Paul Smith signature in the centre really finish this off and make for great viewing while behind the wheel.

The Exterior

• Paint in great condition
• Ceramic coated and paint corrected
• 24 carat-gold emblem

The Paul Smith blue paint is in overall excellent condition with only a few minor blemishes around the car, consisting of some small stone chips around the lower front areas and some small signs of rust under the paint at the boom of the door sills and a couple below the windscreen. It has been ceramic coated, the paint is in fantastic condition and has been very well protected and preserved. It would take very little to take the exterior condition of this car to concours level.

There is a tasteful amount of chrome on the exterior, and the 12” Charcoal Minilite wheels with chrome rims certainly look the part underneath the body colour- matched wheel arches. The tyres are matching, new and balanced this year.

A very nice touch is the original 24 carat-gold Paul Smith bonnet emblem is present and in wonderful condition, also the British Isles grill emblem is present although split in the middle, these are usually missing so it is a very nice inclusion to the car.

Overall a very nice exterior presented in excellent condition.

Exterior

The Mechanics

• Very sound
• Starts and drives very nicely
• Fitted with Hi-LO. 4 corner, height adjustable suspension

Mechanically very sound, the car has been very well preserved and all servicing has been done to a high standard and anything that has needed a repair has been seen to when required. In the vendor’s ownership they have replaced the starter motor, alternator, earth straps, v-belt, spark plugs, rocker gasket, and rocker cover retainers, new brake pads on the front, brake shoes in the rear, and handbrake cables and one rear wheel cylinder.

This year they also have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and o-ring, 4 front ball joints and rubbers, 4 front subframe mountings, track rod ends, steering rack gaiters. Also a new rear subframe, rear subframe mountings, and much more!

As you would expect, this car is in amazing condition mechanically and starts and drives really nicely, certainly a great example.

The Summary

Highly collectible, rare Mini Paul Smith, presented in excellent condition with loads of optional extras included from the factory. A wonderful addition to a collection or to the mini enthusiast, well known to be one of the most luxurious Minis ever made.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
