2000 VW Golf (Mk4) 1.6S Auto

*** Interested parties should note, this vehicle was subject to a CAT N insurance loss in 04/2022 ***

  • Rare automatic model
  • Just 37,042 miles
  • 3 owners from new
  • Original and unmodified

The Appeal

The appeal of the Mk4 Golf was that it brought real material and build quality into the family car segment. Smooth and refined, the Mk4 drove like a car from the segment above.

Nowadays, they make excellent modern classics. Parts are plentiful and inexpensive, while they still very much feel like a substantially built, well engineered modern car.

This particular example is equipped with the rare automatic transmission and comes with exceptionally low mileage, verified by the MOT record, and just 3 owners from new.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in March 2000
  • Just 3 owners from new
  • Second owner from February 2013, current owner since May 2022
  • Certified ‘Cat N’ after the exhaust system was stolen when the car was parked in front of the owner’s house, no accident damage occurred
  • 37,042 miles, verified by MOT history
  • Current MOT to February 2023
  • Current V5C present and correct

The Interior

  • Charcoal grey cloth interior, in good condition, with no signs of damage or excessive wear
  • Light grey headliner is secure and undamaged, with a few minor marks
  • Dark grey carpets run through the cabin and appear to be in good condition
  • In general the interior trim is in good order, with the usual slight sagging to the material on the door cards
  • Complete with front airbags
  • Air-conditioning, which the vendor tells us blows cold
  • Electric windows and door mirrors
  • Pioneer radio/cassette
  • The boot area presents well, and is complete with a spare wheel and toolkit
  • With a good valet, the interior should come up very nicely

The Exterior

  • Metallic Silver paintwork appears to be in largely good condition, with some minor chips and blemishes commensurate with the vehicle’s age
  • There are a few small dings to the driver’s side door
  • Generally the bodywork look in nice condition, with no signs of corrosion we could observe
  • The trim and badging all appears to be intact and sound
  • The original factory upgraded 15” alloy wheels are present and correct and look to be in good order, with no significant damage or lacquer peel that we could identify
  • Underneath, the car looks clean and straight, with no signs we could see of notable corrosion or damage

The Mechanics

  • 1,595 petrol 4-cylinder engine, front wheel drive
  • Automatic transmission
  • The vendor tells us the car has just had an oil service
  • We’re assured the vehicle drives well, with positive braking action and smooth gear changes

Automatic Mk4 Golfs were rare when they were new, they’re something of a unicorn these days. With this one presenting in such solid, unmodified and low mileage condition, we think it makes it an absolute steal – and a perfect everyday modern classic.

The safest way to buy a classic car online

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
