2001 BMW Z3 2.2 Roadster

Highlights

  • Individual two-tone interior
  • Less than 75,000 miles
  • Desirable 2.2 ‘six’

The Appeal

Offering nimble driving characteristics with a range of BMW engines and a drop-top roof, the Z3 Roadster enjoys an enduring appeal amongst owners and driving enthusiasts alike, whilst their plentiful nature ensures a keen knowledge base and strong parts supply.

This example is a 2.2-litre non-sport version, boasting a strong factory specification, low milage and desirable BMW Individual features.

History and Paperwork

  • V5 Registered keepers document
  • Purchased by a serial car collector, this Z3 has spent an extended period of time outside
  • The car does not have a current MoT certificate, and failed on 13 July 2023 at 72,887 miles due to an emissions fault, and an advisory for worn front brake discs
  • New Spark Plugs Fitted September 2023
  • New Battery Fitted 2023

The Interior

  • Factory-order BMW Individual two-tone leather interior
  • Good condition throughout
  • Some signs of mould/damp on the rear of the seat bases due to being stored outside
  • Commensurate usage patina on high-traffic areas such as the steering wheel, shifter and door cards/pulls
  • During our photo shoot, the dashpod gauges were inoperable, showing error code EEP_2
  • The tool kit in the boot is partially complete

The Exterior

  • Cosmos Black Metallic paintwork in good condition
  • Desirable 17-inch Z3 Alloys in great shape
  • Soft-top in good condition, showing no signs of any rips or tears
  • Rear window slightly discoloured
  • No major bodywork damage, scuffs or scrapes noted, though there are a few small scratches and the usual stone chips visible to the front end along with a paint transfer mark on the offside wing mirror
  • A full machine polish/paint correction would be advised to remedy the flat paintwork, though this is not essential

The Mechanicals

  • 2.2-litre inline-six engine with 170bhp, sent rearwards through a five-speed manual transmission
  • Starts, runs and drives with no obvious issues (other than the aforementioned gauge cluster problem)
  • Engine bay in good condition throughout, though the fan shroud requires some attention and is currently covered with electrical tape
  • A new MoT certificate is needed before the car is used on the road again

Summary

Offered for sale with a strong factory specification and desirable colour combination, this Z3 boasts the more desirable inline-six engine, and requires only some light fettling to get it back on the road once again - a tantalising light project for the keen mechanic, and one which should see you eek out the rest of summer with the roof down on a B-road of your choice.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
