2001 Land Rover Defender 110 County TD5

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Respray in Olso Blue
  • Same keeper for the last seven years
  • Well maintained

THE APPEAL

Looking for something with a touch more room than a Defender 90, the 110 offers much more space, enough for all the family, making it a practical 4x4.

This Defender 110 County has been repainted by the previous keeper in Oslo Blue and looks fantastic. The rear section has had Masai tinted windows fitted which also slide open.

A roof rack is fitted, crying out for a roof mounted tent, maybe?

We should mention that the awning fitted to the passenger side will be removed by the time the auction ends.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • V5 is present
  • Registered 27th April 2001
  • Some previous MOT certificates
  • MOT valid until 3rd February 2023

The Land Rover comes with a small amount of paperwork for parts and works carried out over the past few years, the most recent being in May 2021, with some work to the axle and floor, and a clutch master cylinder was fitted in 2020.

THE INTERIOR

  • Original interior
  • Fibreglass insulated headlining from front to rear
  • Sony head unit
  • Fitted rubber mats
The seats in the Defender are Exmoor Trim.

Although the driver's seat does have some sagging to the backrest on the inside edge of the bolster, the material is in good condition with just some wear to the vinyl. This seat was initially on the passenger slide and has been swapped for the driver's seat to put the worn area on the inside.

The passenger seat is in good condition, as are the rear seats and also the fold away seats in the rear of the Defender. The door cards have some age related scuffing in keeping with the mileage.
Land Rover dashboards are pretty simple, as you know, and there is no damage to point out.

The instruments are reported to be working as they should, with no warning lights illuminated when the engine is running, and the odometer has a digital reading of 104,755 miles.

The steering wheel has started to deteriorate around the rim, but this wouldn’t be a difficult item to replace if you wish. An aftermarket Sony CD head unit has been fitted and is working as it should.

The switchgear looks to be in good order, with little wear to be seen and all reportedly working as they should.
The headlining in the 110 has been replaced with an insulated fibreglass version, and there is also a sunroof which opens and closes as it should.

To keep the floor protected are a full set of Defender rubber mats which are in good condition. These are fitted in the front, rear, and boot area above the factory carpet, which is also in a good clean condition. Separating the rear seats from the boot area is a mesh bulkhead.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Oslo Blue metallic
  • LED light upgrade
  • Rull size roof rack
  • Masai tinted windows
  • Side steps
Finished in Oslo Blue metallic, the Defender County presents well.

There are quite a few scratches to the bonnet, mainly covered with the additional cover, but they are there. The lights have been replaced with upgraded LED units, giving a crisp, bright white light.

The light surrounds are finished in silver to match the grille, and have just a few small chips.

The bumper has been upgraded and has LED lights mounted, which are working as they should; the original bumper is included with the vehicle. Mounted to the bull bar are two Wipac spotlights. These are not currently working, but the seller has not investigated this any further.

The bonnet looks to align as it should, and there are chequer plate panels mounted to the wing tops, which are in good order.
Around to the sides and the Defender is nice and straight other than the usual Land Rover ripples as standard. The doors look to align as they should, and the windows are in good condition with no excessive scratches.

Fitted to the rear section are a set of Masai tinted windows. However, the inside of the doors do have some areas of corrosion in line with the bottom of the windows, which is quite a common place for this to occur.

Matching the wing tops, chequer plate sill covers are fitted, and the single steps have been replaced in favour of full-length steps to either side. The original single steps are included apart from the driver's step as this was broken.
The spare wheel is mounted to the door to the rear, which is in good condition. There is some paint blistering on the door, but this has not broken through. The lights have been replaced with LED units to match the front and work correctly.

A ladder has been fitted to aid getting up to the roof rack, and the windows have been tinted to match the side windows. The roof rack covers the entire roof with LED lights fitted to the front. As mentioned earlier, the awning will be removed before the auction ends.
The 5-spoke alloy wheels are in good condition, with no corrosion to the faces. These are fitted with matching BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres which have only covered a few hundred miles.

THE MECHANICS

  • 2.5 litre TD5
  • Manual transmission
  • Snorkel kit
  • Waxoyled chassis
  • Waxoyled inner doors
The Defender 110 County is fitted with the 2.5 litre TD5 engine, which is more refined than the previous TDI engine and reported to be the stronger and best engine for the Defender.

This starts up as it should with no untoward noises coming from the engine bay. The Defender is reported to pull strongly through the gears with a smooth gear change, and the hi-low transmission works as it should, although the seller has never taken the 110 off-road.
Stopping the Defender is taken care of with a set of upgraded Terrafirma drilled and grooved brake discs fitted to the front. These are reported to bring the 4x4 to a halt in a straight line, with no juddering through the pedal.
The complete underside has been treated with waxoyl to future proof it against any unwanted corrosion creeping in, and It has also been applied inside the door cavities.

SUMMARY

With the same keeper for the past seven years having covered only approximately 3,000 miles in the past two years, means it is time to part with the Defender 110 County.

It’s been repainted in the stunning Oslo Blue, making it stand out nicely. A new set of tyres have been fitted, offering many miles for the new keeper. There is an MOT valid until 3rd February 2023, and it passed with no advisories as it has done for the previous 10 MOT tests.

Perfect for all the family, what are you waiting for?

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
