2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Tip (996)

Highlights

  • Good service history
  • Original condition throughout
  • Recent major service
  • Factory hardtop
  • Tiptronic gearbox

The Appeal

Launched in 1998 the Porsche 996 was the latest expression of the famous 911 sportscar that had first appeared back in 1963 and, for the first time ever it featured a water-cooled, rather than air-cooled, flat-six 3.6 engine.

20 years on and the 996 has grown in status and reputation even amongst the most die-hard air-cooled fan and is now accepted as a true Porsche worthy of the 911 insignia.

Here we have a nice original example of the 996 Carrera Cabriolet with Tiptronic gearbox and a full service history that needs some paint and TLC.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 2001
  • Excellent service history
  • MOT expires January 2023
  • V5c present
  • 2 sets of keys
  • Original owner’s manuals and service book
  • Spare wheel, jack and toolkit
Clearly well maintained throughout its life the car has been used by the current owner regularly but for mostly short drives, clocking up around 10,000 miles in the last five and a half years.

The Interior

  • Full black leather seats with contrasting stitching
  • Porsche embossed headrests
  • Air conditioning
  • Digital Bose system with cassette & 6 cd changer
  • Electric seats
  • Park sensors
The black leather interior looks pretty good but does show some signs of use commensurate with the car’s age and mileage.

The electric cabriolet hood opens and closes nicely and has just had all new rubber seals fitted, the door-cards and dashboard are all in nice condition, as are the carpets and there’s just some small repair needed to the inner lining of the hood at the rear.

The Exterior

  • Seal Grey Metallic paintwork
  • Black hood
  • 18” Carrera wheels with Porsche crest wheel centres
  • Windscreen with top-tint
The Seal Grey metallic paint is a good colour for this car, contrasting well with the black interior but the paintwork will certainly need some work in places, in particular the bonnet and the bumpers at both ends. Otherwise it’s not too bad but has suffered at the hands of London with a few scratches and very slight dings to be found as you go round the car.

The 18” alloy wheels are a bit tired with some being quite badly kerbed, but they all wear good tyres and a good refurbishment will soon have them looking great again.

The black hood is in good overall shape, fitting well on its new rubber seals and for the winter months there’s the useful addition of the factory hardtop.

The Mechanics

  • 3.6 litre engine
  • Tiptronic
  • Full-service history
  • Regularly serviced and used
  • Recently serviced in January 2022
This looks to be a well-maintained example of the legendary Porsche 911, with an excellent service record and no reported faults.

There are many receipts for servicing and various parts replaced during the last five and a half years ownership with items such as a new battery, alternator, brake pads all round and a new exhaust system.

The Summary

A nice and clean, well maintained and original example of the 911 Carrera that needs some tidying up and some new paint, all of which should add up to a great opportunity for someone looking to grab a remarkably versatile and practical sports car in need of a little TLC.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
