2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (996)

Highlights

  • Porsche 911 in good condition
  • Comes with a hard top roof
  • Low mileage in recent years, 5,000 since 2016
  • Countless invoices proving work
  • Long MoT – until March 2023
  • Extensive service history

The Appeal

With Porsche 911 prices rocketing sky-high, the dream of owning one of the best sports cars ever made is falling out of reach.

However, the 996 generation is yet to be subject to the immense increase in value we’ve seen from other generations. In the right specification, these can therefore be the best first Porsches for many motoring enthusiasts.

This particular example in standard Carrera guise with the Tiptronic gearbox is surely one of those models that will be the perfect first 911.

History and Paperwork

  • MoT until March 2023
  • Sale includes many invoices of past work
  • Just 5,000 miles covered since May 2016
  • Extensive service history, both main dealer and Porsche specialists
  • Leather Porsche paperwork wallet included with driver’s manual

The Interior

  • Leather sports interior with extended leather option
  • Aftermarket Pioneer stereo with 6-disc changer
  • Original Porsche infotainment system included in the sale
  • Comes with a wind deflector

From the driver’s seat, this Porsche 996 911 greets you with elegant blue leather covering the seats and parts of the dash while the Porsche crest takes pride of place on the steering wheel.

Behind the wheel, you’ll notice the stunning white instrument cluster that really screams Porsche.

For the most part, the interior is in good condition for its age. The passenger seats have very minimal creasing, and the dashboard surface is near-impeccable. The driver’s side does show some wear on the bolster and the carpet mat in the footwell looks to have some discolouration, but overall it's looking very tidy.

Next to the steering wheel sits an aftermarket Pioneer infotainment system capable of phone connectivity bringing the car’s interior into the current decade. That is linked to a Becker 6-disc changer. For those looking for a fully standard interior, the sale does include Porsche’s original infotainment system along with its user manual.

The Exterior

  • Excellent condition
  • Subtle Seal Grey Metallic paint with dark blue soft top
  • Sale includes hardtop roof
  • Unique ‘fried-egg’ headlight design

The 911 is a car that changes very little from one generation to another keeping the same beautiful shape as the original car from the early sixties.

But with its unique fried egg design headlights, the 996 sets itself apart from other generations of the model. Although this means it has become an outlier in the history of the 911 not getting the praise of other examples, it also means the car is more accessible to a wider audience.

From the outside, this particular car presents itself very well with an excellently preserved and subtle paint colour. It would be very hard to find many signs of damage throughout the paintwork and the rest of the exterior follows the same trend.

Both the soft top and hard top roofs are in similarly good condition with just a few marks on the blue cloth soft top.

The lighter coloured wheels compliment the blend of colours perfectly and are too in brilliant shape showing little to no scuff marks.

The Mechanics

  • Sporty rear-mounted 315 hp 3.6 litre flat-six
  • Automatic ‘Tiptronic’ gearbox
  • Well cared for model mechanically

Sat behind the rear axle in this 996 911 Carrera is the entry-level 3.6-litre flat-six engine developing a grand total of 315 horsepower which is sent to the rear wheel through a five-speed automatic gearbox.

With plenty of paperwork and invoices to back up previous work and condition, the car has clearly been well-maintained mechanically.

Though the previous few MoT checks have pointed out brake disc wear as advisories, the seller advises us that they have since replaced the front discs and pads with in the last two months.

Summary

With a healthy history and very presentable looks, this Porsche makes for an excellent first entry into 911 ownership and with both a soft top and hard top, the car should be useable all year round.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are Commission bids?

A commission bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
