The Background

Launched in 1998 at the Birmingham Motor Show, the Jaguar S-Type was a mid-size four-door saloon car. In using the S-Type name the company had revived the name from an early version, the 1963-1968 S-Type, which has several similar design features. Featuring a few engine and transmission choices the car was full of options and tons of leather which made it an excellent

The modern S-Type was given a facelift in 2005 but was subsequently axed in late 2007 to be replaced by the XF. In all the car had been received well at the launch and throughout its life, it’s easily recognisable on the roads today as a good looking modern classic.

The History

This car has had quite an interesting life, it had only seen 3 owners in its 18-year history, and this is reflected by the low mileage. If we look in the service history book, we can see that the first owner of this car was Jaguar Cars Ltd. up in Rugby. With it being a car for Jaguar you can imagine that it was a high spec. car.

It may not have the navigation pack inside the car, but the most important feature is that it has been fitted with the 3.0l petrol V6 rather the 2.5 petrol V6 this is good news for the next owner as this seems to be the engine to have. For some unknown reason, the bigger 3.0l engine is more fuel-efficient than the 2.5l but it is also more powerful, so how this works is a mystery.

Jaguar Cars Ltd. sell the car in 2007 and it makes its way down to Oakley, Bedford where it stayed in the same ownership for 10 years up until 2017. In the time with the car the second owner only covers 36,000 miles. The current owner ended up purchasing this car in 2017 for a friend of theirs and over the past four years it has only covered 300 miles.

The new owner will be collecting a well looked after and comfortable car for their money.

The Paperwork

There is a little bit of paperwork that will come with the car, you can expect the usual V5, current MOT certificate and other bits of literature from the Jaguar Dealership. Importantly this car comes with a Service history from the first service in 2004 up to the most recent documented service in 2017. There is also a letter from when the second owner purchased the car from Jaguar which outlines what is included in their 12-month extended warranty from 2007.

One excellent but small piece of paperwork is the original radio code card, this is something that you may never think about when looking at a car but if you don’t know the right code it could become a big headache. There may not be mountains of paperwork for this Jaguar but as the other sections will show, it has been looked after throughout its life.

The Interior

The interior of this Jaguar is stunning, the cream leather with the wooden accents is quintessentially Jaguar, it is the place to be if you need to cruise up and down the motorways.

The cream seats are still in excellent condition. Owing to the low mileage of this car there are no rips, tears or even stains on these seats, this is something that you don’t tend to see with an 18-year-old car with a cream interior. The wooden accents that flow through the dash and door cards of the car are also in great condition with no delamination of the wood.

Another great point within the interior is the radio/media fascia. With older cars, you tend to find that numbers or symbols tend to get worn down with use, but as you can with this example there are no signs of wear to any of these buttons. Whilst we’re focusing on this part of the car, we should talk about the two LCD displays that show the radio and heater function, like the buttons these look like new, sometimes as LCD displays age they may end up with parts that don’t work anymore, but all of the display is lit up and visible in all lighting conditions.

The only part of the interior that lets it down is the parts of wear on the steering wheel. It would seem that one of the owners in the past has worn a ring as there is slight damage to the leather part of the steering wheel. But this is one of the only slight issues within the interior.

With the interior condition of this Jaguar, the new owner will be picking up a car that looks as good as new on the inside, little details like a headliner that doesn’t sag or the buttons that show almost no signs of use just go to prove how well this car has been looked after and treasured throughout its life. If you need to travel long distances this is the place to be owing to its level of comfort.

The Exterior

The S-Type is instantly recognisable wherever they go, the distinctive and classic headlight array on the front with the addition of the teardrop-shaped chrome grille are parts of Jaguar design heritage dating back to the Mark 10 almost 50 years ago.

The exterior of this S-Type is in excellent condition with only a few minor parts that the new owner may want to address, these include a small mark on the nearside front wing and another small mark just beside the near side door handle but these are small marks that wouldn’t need much work to put them right. With this S-Type being finished in a stunning clue colour it stands out in a crowd of cars and with the cream interior it all ties in and works nicely together.

A nice little touch from the current custodian of the car was to replace the chrome effect grille at the front of the car. Over time the factory original ones tend to start to deteriorate so with a new one fitted the exterior of this car is bought up another level.

Over its lifetime this Jag has picked up a few minor marks on the alloys, but these are only major considering the condition of other alloys of this age. Once again, the new owner may want to get alloys refurbished but they are not in desperate need of one, they still look excellent on the exterior.

Overall, this is an excellent looking S-Type, with the stunning blue paintwork twinned with the little nods to Jaguars of old it is one to watch for the future, this body shape will become iconic and historic.

The Mechanics

As you can imagine from a car with such a well looked after interior and exterior the mechanical aspects of this car are in great condition too. Fitted with the bigger and more powerful 3.0l petrol V6 this S-type will transport you down the road at some speed. Not only is it the better engine to have it also sounds great, it burbles away quietly when on tick over but if you're lucky it may even get a little crackle out of the exhaust if you’re on it.

It may sound good, but the S-Type is all about comfort, and with the 3.0l V6 mated to an automatic gearbox it is such an easy car to drive. The automatic box shifts smoothly and kicks down with a positive action.

With the peace of mind of comprehensive service history and currently no warning lights on the dash the new owner will be able to drive this car without worrying about the condition of the internal parts. If maintained properly this car will go on to do many more miles in great comfort.

The Appeal

You will not want to miss out on the S-Type when a car has been as well looked after as this example it is a sure sign that this car will be an excellent car for many years to come. With Jaguars iconic history of building comfortable and capable saloon cars, the S-Type has now become part of this long line of great cars.

With this car being in such great condition the new owner will be getting a stunning example for their money. With the comfortable leather seats, smooth automatic gearbox, and excellent engine you will be able to use this car for any task that you may think of and have fun doing it knowing that your S-Type is one of the best on the UK roads.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
