THE APPEAL

One would be mistaken for just thinking this is your usual run of the mill Jaguar. Sure, the outside looks to be fairly modest but that’s what makes it so great, it’s unassuming. Underneath that otherwise modest exterior, sits the heart of a lion and then some. A 4.2 litre V8 engine with a supercharger bolted to it that makes 400bhp, will propel you to 62 in just five seconds. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Quite literally.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Registered in 2003
  • Complete Jaguar book pack
  • Stamped service book
  • V5C present
  • 2 OWNERS
  • Stacks of invoices
This Jaguar has been looked after fairly well over its life with many service stamps to note in the Jaguar service book that have been carried out either by official Jaguar dealerships or, specialists. The car comes with the original V5C as well as the original book pack and MOT which shows a clean bill of health.

THE INTERIOR

  • Electric seats
  • 6 CD changer
  • Multi-function steering wheel
  • Climate control
Jaguar have always been top of their game when it comes to making luxurious interiors with this particular interior being no exception. The cabin comes with a fair amount of high tech such as the touch-screen satellite navigation system, electric memory seats and climate control.
The optional sports seats present themselves incredibly well considering the vehicle’s age and mileage. We noticed no marks to the bolsters and the cushions are still tight with no sagging to report. The front seats are also embossed with the model designation ‘R’ which is a nice subtle feature.
The door cards, carpet and trim which surround the cockpit look great with no rips or tears that we noticed. They contrast beautifully with the veneer that can be found around the car, which adds to the luxurious feel the cabin has.  Overall, the condition of the interior is in very good condition for its age.
As far as we are aware, all the buttons, switches and electronics within the vehicle are performing as they were intended to do so.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Beautiful blue metallic paintwork
  • Bi-Xenon headlights
  • 19” double spoke alloys
  • Parking distance control
The deep blue metallic paintwork that this XJR is finished in looks amazing. You can see that this car has been looked after considerably by the owner.  There are of course, a few age related marks on the front end but nothing that is unexpected from a car of this age and mileage.
Generally, with cars that are around 20 years old, the brightwork tends to become tatty and start to lose its sheen. However, on this example, the chrome accents that surround the vehicle are in fine condition and still look rather lustrous. Another nod to how well cared for this car has been.
The alloy wheels really complement the bodywork design and ensure this Jag’ still looks sporty. Two of the four alloys wheels are looking a little tatty with one showing some curb rash and the other looking like it has lost some lacquer, whilst the centre caps have seen better days.
Generally speaking, the exterior of the vehicle looks to be in great shape, with no obvious dents or dings to note. If we were being totally fussy, the rear model badge and centre caps on the wheels could do with replacing.

THE MECHANICS

  • 4.2L supercharged V8 producing 400BHP
  • Six-speed automatic gearbox
  • 0-62 in five seconds
Being the supercharged V8 model, this XJ-R is one for enthusiasts alike. The V8 engine starts and ticks over as smoothly as one would expect with the six-speed automatic gearbox functioning well, sliding smoothly between gears with no crunching or grinding that we noticed when the vehicle was in motion.
The paperwork shows that the car has been subject to regular maintenance over its lifetime, with it being given anything it needed.

SUMMARY

This XJ-R boasts some fine manufacturer options. Gorgeous paintwork paired with impeccable mechanics and performance characteristics make this a wonderful car for cruising or tackling a British B-road.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
