The Appeal

If you love the physical interactivity of properly driving a car, then a small sports car or roadster is what you need. Many companies in the UK have offered kits to turn humdrum family cars into fun track machines and weekend B-road burners. But Robin Hood’s USP was the idea that all you needed was a donor vehicle and their kit and you had everything you need. No need to source parts or scavenge in breaker’s yards.

This example – one of their 2B kits – has been built to a very high standard. Based on a 2-litre Pinto engined Ford Sierra, it has been carefully modified and enhanced to create a brilliant little sports car. If you’re looking for a track day car, or just something fun to wheel out of the garage on sunny days, then this has to be on your list.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in September 2003
  • Kit purchased from Robin Hood in July 2000 (original invoice included)
  • Based on a 2-litre Ford Sierra
  • Built by the first owner, who was an aviation engineer
  • Four owners from new, current owner since June 2022
  • Extensive history file, including build diagrams and instructions
  • MOT to August 2023
  • 6,610 miles indicated

The Interior

  • Half leather sports seats with fabric centres, fitted by the previous owner and in very good condition with red contrast piping
  • Red Cobra harnesses, fitted at the same time as the seats and in similarly excellent order
  • Black carpets through the cabin
  • Quick release Momo sports steering wheel
  • Fire extinguisher mounted between the seats
  • Sparco billet gear knob
  • Cut-off / isolation switch
  • Bank of gauges: oil pressure, water temperature, ammeter and voltmeter
  • Usefully sized and lockable rear storage trunk
  • All of the controls and trim present very well, with everything looking to be in excellent condition overall
  • The vendor tells us that everything functions as it should with no faults

The Exterior

  • Stainless steel body panels with red contrast accents – all in fine condition with no damage we could identify
  • Wrapped side exit exhaust (helps prevent accidental leg burning!)
  • Rear mounted spare wheel
  • Black rollover hoop
  • Team Dynamics multi-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels, finished in gloss black and shod with a matched set of Yokohama tyres – they are all in very good condition, with no kerb marks
  • As there is no roof or wet weather kit, the car needs to be stored indoors
  • The underside is exceptionally clean and tidy, with no damage apparent and all the running gear clearly having been very well cared for and meticulously maintained

The Mechanics

  • 1,993cc naturally aspirated, four-cylinder ‘Pinto’ engine
  • Kent fast road camshaft
  • Ported and flowed head
  • Twin double-barrel Weber 40s
  • Five-speed manual transmission with quickshift
  • Stainless steel exhaust system
  • Adjustable coilover suspension all round
  • Very tidy and clean engine bay, with braided stainless fuel hoses and a painted rocker cover
  • The vendor had the car rolling road tuned last year
  • We’re informed that the car starts, runs and drives superbly and is incredible fun on the open road

Summary

If your idea of a perfect car is something that extracts every last drop of joy and excitement from each mile of road, then this Robin Hood will be perfect for you. Tactile, beautifully finished and a riot to drive, it’s the distilled essence of driving enjoyment.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
