2005 Mercedes Benz CLS 500 (C219)

  • A low mileage and low owner example of the first generation of CLS four door coupe
  • A fine exemplar of the powerful and luxurious CLS 500 5.0L V8 model
  • Backed by plenty of provenance providing paperwork

The Appeal

The Mercedes C219 model was based on the Vision CLS concept car that was exhibited at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car was based on E-Class underpinnings and essentially grafted a sloping coupe roofline onto a four-door saloon body. The car was produced between 2004 and 2010 and appealed to those that needed a four door, four seat luxury car but hankered after the stylish demeanour of a sports coupe.

This example is exceptional in terms of its two-owner history and very low original mileage. It’s the highly specified and technologically advanced CLS 500 version, too, complete with Airmatic DC air suspension system, the innovative 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission and electrohydraulic braking system. An ownership proposition which is as exciting as it is luxurious.

  • The white on black VDO gauges are housed in a hooded binnacle
  • This sits behind the multifunction veneer and leather, four-spoke steering wheel
  • The centre console houses the satellite navigation screen and controls
  • This also doubles as the control centre for audio and telephone functions
  • The beige carpets are original and look to be in fine condition
  • Other refinements include an electrically operated glass sunroof
  • The well-shaped boot is fitted with a heavy-duty rubber boot liner
  • The tools and original warning triangle are in evidence
  • The spare wheel is situated under the boot floor

The Exterior

  • This example is presented in original looking Black paintwork
  • The condition appears excellent overall and it exudes a good level of shine
  • There is the odd age-related scratch and chip in evidence but nothing significant
  • The bodywork looks to be in excellent fettle with tight and symmetrical panel gaps
  • The big, oval chromed tailpipes hint at the performance potential of the CLS

  • The car sits purposefully on five-spoke Mercedes Benz alloy wheels
  • These are 18-inch items and have recently been refurbished
  • As such, they present in an excellent condition

  • The wheels are shod in a matching set of quality Continental Conti Sport Contact tyres
  • All cabin glass and light lenses appear to be in an excellent original condition

The Mechanics

  • The CLS 500 is fitted with the smooth and powerful M113 E50 V8 engine
  • This is a naturally aspirated unit of 5.0L capacity
  • This was originally rated at 302bhp and 339Ib-ft of torque
  • Power is fed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission
  • This configuration was good for a 6 second 0-60mph time and a 150mph + top speed
  • The under-bonnet presentation of the car appears excellent
  • This points to a well-cared for and diligently maintained history
  • The underside of the car also looks very clean and straight for its age
  • The car underwent an oil service in March 2023 at 42,080 miles
  • A lower ball joint was also replaced at this stage
  • This, the low mileage and advisory free MOT all point to a well sorted example

The CLS range introduced a stylish and premium alternative to enthusiastic drivers who were looking for something a bit different. Although a four-seater only, the CLS doesn’t loose out too much in terms of space over the E-Class on which it is based. It is appointed and equipped to appeal to those who demand the best in their cars. The V8 engined cars are both powerful and extremely refined. A great choice for those who like to follow a different and more individual path.

This example offers an unusually appealing history having just two owners from new, the first of these retaining the car for a full 18 years. The mileage is impressively low, too, for a car of this age. It presents in a popular colourway and looks great with its newly refurbished alloy wheels. It is a subtle and low-profile car making it the consummate Q-car with over 300bhp on tap from a rorty V8. A great opportunity to become the third lucky owner of this exceptional example.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
