The Appeal
Known for a pure driving experience, Porsche produces some of the finest sports cars on the planet. Not just because of the way they drive, but the fact they are built to last and look good while doing it.
The 996 era is fast becoming a favourite with Porsche and sports car fans alike, with its distinctive headlight shape and the instantly recognisable raspy roar from the flat-six engine.
This stunning example has covered on average less than 5k miles PA and evidently been cherished and pampered, showing just a few blemishes on the 18 year old paintwork and less than usual wear inside. The benefit of a 4 wheel drive system makes this Porsche just that little more practical year round, in case you need some more convincing as to why a Carrera 4S is a good idea….
This 996 also comes with the coveted manual transmission, original wheel set and heated seats for those cooler days out.
The History and Paperwork
V5 showing just 3 previous keepers
Well documented service history
Original folders and booklets
Documented paperwork for this 996 is a little thin on the ground, but a well stamped service schedule and a superb MOT history check is good reassurance!
Just 11 months after purchase the first service was completed at 8632 miles, thereafter followed:
12000 miles?
- 26.07.07 @28102 miles
- 27.11.08 @43250 miles
- 07.12.10 @57056 miles
- 07.12.12 @67418 miles
- 09.12.14 @74042 miles
- 16.12.15 @77250 miles
- 19.09.17 @80096 miles
- 01.11.18 @80892 miles
- 13.12.21 @83090 miles
The Interior
- Heated seats
- All black leather on dark charcoal carpets
- Electronically adjustable seats
- Speedometer binnacle LCD screens are clear and working
Unlike some 996 Porsches that come with a tan or cream interior that have a tendency to age more, this example comes with black leather seats mated with charcoal carpets, giving a more usable experience and showing less wear.
The rear seats look unused, likely more used for luggage space due to their small nature and the leather and furnishings are in fantastic order. The front seats can be adjusted electronically, which is nice, and show minor wear, particularly on the bolsters. This is not unusual and would improve a great deal with a simple recolour if desired.
The usual high contact areas are in good order with no untoward or excessive signs of misuse or lack of care at all. This era of Porsche too, can suffer from the interior plastics losing their textured coating but we are pleased to see this is not the case with this example, showing little signs of this occurring. The speedometer LCD screens too are working well with no evident pixelation or leaking. There is a clarity issue on the binnacle plastic cover, but this could be a product from cleaning. All in all the overall presentation is very nice and very clean.
The Exterior
- Very nice paintwork all round with just a handful of minor blemishes
- Near perfect wheels with matching Pirelli tyres
- All trims and plastics in great order with nothing obviously missing
Simple, elegant and slightly understated, this 996 is true class and no frills. The stunning midnight blue paint has superb gloss and depth in the sun and compliments the curves of this car well and combined with the original silver wheels gives an all-round luxury look. Looking at the more delicate areas, we see the lights at the front are clear and not yellowed, the rears are in great order and all the badges are present.
The roof rail trims are showing slight bubbling under the paint but not causing an obvious issue as yet, (see photos) although, future attention to this may be necessary so as to retain the stunning appearance the car exudes. A slight scuff on the front bumper, a couple of light scratches on the drivers side rear wheel arch and a light scratch on the roof are about all this car has sustained and with a little professional attention could be remedied with ease.
Large red brake callipers hide behind those stunning wheels and these show little evidence of marks or lacquer peel that can often be a problem, showing true care over this car's mechanical life.
The Mechanics
- Full set of Pirelli tyres fitted
- The car started perfectly with no visible smoke upon startup from cold
- Tidy and original underbonnet
From top to tail it is evident that care has gone into keeping this 996 on the road in top order. From the beautifully painted wheels and brake callipers, through to the original exhausts and untouched under bonnet, this is a very original and unmodified example.
The typical raspy cold start is a true joy and a real head turner, with no undue noises or otherwise on start. A look around the engine bay shows a clean but not overly detailed engine, with everything in its place and tidy. From the outside, the brake rotors appear in good order with no heavy scoring corrosion buildup that we could see showing regular use, but also correct maintenance of the performance calliper setup.
Summary
With summer just around the corner, it's time to think about what car might adorn your driveway for those warm evening drives, but with a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S it doesn't matter what time of year it is! Whatever you are requiring, it's likely that this car will do just that, very well.
Of the era when cars were not loaded with interfering driver aids, this car is meant to be driven, not just briskly, but with a mile wide grin, every day, with luggage and perhaps a passenger or two.
Of course the perfect car does not exist, but a 996 will tick many many boxes!
