The Appeal
This second generation of the Azure was built under the auspicious gaze of the VW Group. Featuring a heavily reworked version of the venerable 6.75-litre V8, it offered the kind of bespoke, luxury travel, edged with brutal performance, that Bentley are renowned for.
Here we have a very well specified and nicely commissioned example, complete with very low mileage, a good service record and pleasing colour scheme. As an example of modern British elegance, it may be unparalleled.

With supple cream hide upholstery, blue secondary leather, acres of wood trim and quality switchgear, this Azure feels every inch the opulent land yacht. The upholstery presents very well, with some light creasing evident, particularly to the the front seats, but overall very little evidence of wear.
Much the same can be said of the beige carpets and matched overmats, which present very well and appear to be free from staining or any damage. They complement the upholstery nicely and help create a calming cabin atmosphere.
That classic wood trim has a deep, glossy finish and shows no signs of cracking, UV damage or delamination. In fact, it looks to be in superb, almost ‘as new’ condition. So too all the switchgear and instrumentation that adorns the dash presents in fine order, with few signs of wear and nothing appearing to be broken or missing. It’s a beautifully crafted and finished driving environment, and the vendor tells us that everything works faultlessly.
The vast boot is finished with beige carpets with contrasting blue edging, which also look to be in superb condition, as far as we could see. A trickle charger is also installed in the back for when the vehicle is not in use.
The Exterior

The car is presented in a lovely colour scheme of silver-blue with a deep blue hood. Looking at the paintwork, it displays the usual deep, lustrous Bentley finish. There may well be the odd very minor blemish, but there was nothing we could identify ourselves. It appears to be in incredibly good condition for a 16 year old vehicle.
Similarly, the electrically operated hood, which stows neatly beneath the leather-clad rear deck, shows no signs of UV damage, wear or tearing that we could identify.
Riding on its factory 19” alloy wheels, which look to be in excellent condition and are shod in a matched set of Pirelli tyres, it’s a well-proportioned and handsome machine. Even looking underneath, it’s clear the vehicle has been very well cared for and little used. The underside shows no apparent signs of damage, corrosion or significant wear. In fact, it looks exceptionally tidy and belies its years.
The Mechanics

Bentley have always excelled at developing cars that are deeply cosseting yet surprisingly powerful. The Azure is no different, that vast twin-turbo V8 serving up 450bhp and 645lb-ft – enough to push this immense luxury tourer from 0-60mph in just 5.6 seconds and with enough oomph to go on to a mighty 171mph where allowed.
Twinned with a smooth and flowing automatic transmission, this offers up a heady mix of abilities: unrivalled cruising ability with all the power you could reasonably need when called upon.
With such low mileage and a fine service record, it’s perhaps no surprise that the vendor tells us that the car drives sublimely well. They assure us there are no mechanical issues and that it drives as well as it presents.
Summary
If you want to experience truly unruffled and statesmanlike transportation, nothing this side of the Orient Express competes with a Bentley Azure. Exceptionally well crafted with vast reserves of power, a fine specification and genuinely low mileage, this peerless luxury cabriolet has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
