The Appeal
The clue's in the name. Bertone designed the Alfa Romeo GT to be an excellent grand tourer and that's certainly what it became. Two decades on from its introduction, this is still one supremely capable car, not to mention an exceedingly handsome one. As the vendor quips, "It has big comfortable seats up front, a willing engine with sufficient torque and a decent sized boot. The Italian suit cuts a dash in the world of modern polyester..."
Having spent 2013-2020 in dry storage off the road, this Alfa has been subject to a comprehensive recommissioning program, with over £7,000 in expenditure. An exhaustive list of the work completed is included in the listing below.
The vendor tells us:
"I purchased the vehicle from a local garage in March 2024. The Alfa was SORN"d through last winter inside and under cover (see photo). During my ownership the car has had a new rear caliper, front Koni shock absorbers (non adjustable), 2 rear exhaust sections supplied by Alfa Shop Norwich, wiper blades and has just had almost £400 spent on an underbody tidy up. There really wasn't a great deal wrong with it as you can see in the photos."

1. When were the belts, pulleys, etc. and the gearbox rebuilt (year and milage, at the time)? 2. Does it have installed an oil catch can? (usually not standard from factory) 3. Does the phase variator been changed and if so when? 4. I see tyres are 215 wide, aren't required 225 for these rims? 5. Have been undertaken any checks for carbon built-up especially on valves, and if so, when? 6. Recommissioning was 2020? Many thnaks.

SellerThe timing belt, balance shaft belt and water pump were changed in April 2022 at 35, 165 miles. There is no mention of the variator being replaced at the same time. The gearbox was rebuilt at the time of the recommissioning of the car in November 2020 by Austrin Gearbox Specialists, Tyne & Wear at a cost of £1300. As far as I can tell there is no oil catch can fitted. Some might argue that despite their worth they can also damage the engine when oil vapours aren't properly emitted. The owners manual suggests that the 2.0 JTS is fitted with 215/45 R17 tyres. (ZR's were actually fitted). It only suggests 225's on V6 models. It also states that the standard rim size is 7J. According to views on Alfaowner.com it is not recommended to fit 225's on this size rim. Best checked with tyre specialist for definitive answer. There is nothing in the history showing any checks for carbon build up.
