The Background

Throughout its history, Ferrari has made cars for a variety of reasons – to win races, to outdo its competitors, or to simply show off. The Dino was Ferrari’s unique version of taking on the venerable Porsche 911. Currently, the Dino is one of the most sought-after Ferrari models on the planet and stands as a critical milestone in Ferrari’s long history, and it had only 1,276 units of the 246 GTS made.
Built on a bespoke chassis, this fantastic recreation finished in red was purpose built by Classic Replicas of Bridgewaters with exact dimensions and with an Italian 3.2L GTA V6 engine, which is the only one in the UK with this power plant. Much time and love has been taken first building and then maintaining this tribute and the owner expresses it is the best way to enjoy such a car.

The History

The Dino was a brand best known for mid-engine, rear-drive sports cars produced by Ferrari between 1957 to 1976. The brand came into existence in late 1956 with a front-engine Formula Two racer powered by a brand new Dino V6 engine.
This particular vehicle is deemed by many as the most accurate of all Dino replicas, even down to crossover wiper blades unlike the 'JH Classic' version. Due to not much use, the owner has decided to part ways with its red beauty, making it a very reluctant but necessary sale.

The Paperwork

The owner possesses all the documents since purchase including the V5C document issued by the DVLA to confirm proof of ownership, specifications, addresses and history. Additionally, there is a full-service history file on this car with all the specialist receipts. The car starts and drives with no obvious faults and although she has a current MOT, the seller strongly recommends a good going over before any road use.

The Interior

The interior consists of cream leather seats and door cards, though slightly worn, would benefit from refurbishment, likewise the 2-piece Targa headlining. The carpets are mostly good, though slightly grubby, and loose in places. The replica dash is in good order, and features an oval gauge pod behind a giant, three-spoke steering wheel. The cluster has eight individual gauges, and in the centre is three levers controlling various features.

The Exterior

Visually, the Dino 206 and 246 are a bit of a throwback to an earlier period of Italian sports car models, with a stunning exterior. Leonardo Fioravanti, who was behind this design, was that same Pininfarina talent responsible for other Ferrari classics.

This beautiful car’s exterior paintwork is very presentable, as general wear and tear is expected with some stone chips and touch-ins. The wheels and tires are in good order, and the engine and underbody are both in presentable condition. Unique to this replica is the custom 1972 Le Mans body upgrade. Both door closers are worn and would benefit from some attention, and some of the body decals are slightly faded. The two-piece Targa removable roof is well fitted and an amazing feature for these models.s

The Mechanics

According to the current owner, the car is complete, and the engine runs well without any leaks or problems. Though no aftermarket items were fitted on this vehicle, this Dino replica employs a 3200 V-6 mounted at the rear/mid-engine position, sending the power to the rear axle by way of a 6 Speed Alfa Romeo GTV Gearbox. Handling is upped thanks to rack-and-pinion steering. In total, about £20,000+ has been spent on power and body upgrades and not to mention the £1000's spent on regular peace of mind servicing.

The Appeal

This car is arguably the most desirable sports vehicle. Paired with the wide, be-chromed nose, swoopy fenders, wavy shoulder line, and pert rear end, it is immediately obvious why this car is so desirable. The interior design adds to its exterior sporty appearance making it a sports car drivers’ dream. This Ferrari replica is a fantastic opportunity to drive a Dino. Let’s be honest there is no way we will ever be able to drive one otherwise at this cost!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
