The Appeal

Launched at the Paris Auto Show in September 2006, the Audi R8 sports car became an instant classic. The striking new design shared its name with the successful Audi R8 Le Mans 24 Hour race car. The new sports car needed little help however from the LMP race winner, thanks to its distinctive styling. Powered by the mighty V8 from the RS4, the rear wheel drive R8 had the power to match its good looks, which was backed up by Audi’s equally impressive Quattro 4x4 system.

Presented here is an early Type 42 R8 that was registered in September 2009. It was ordered with some very nice optional extras, including the expensive Audi Magnetic Ride Suspension System.

The Condition

This head-turning Audi R8 presents in good condition with the owner stating the car was given a full detail and paint treatment when he acquired the car in 2021.

The black metallic paint work is in nice shape with some marks and signs of use as expected for a 15 year old car. There is a rub mark on the right rear wheel arch, a small scratch on the drivers door handle and some chips noted on the drivers side b pillar. These small imperfections are shown in the photos.

The alloy wheels are in clean condition with some small scuffs noted in the photos on two wheels.

One the inside the R8 is in nice shape with the 6 speed gated manual the star of the show. The black leather seats are in good order with some scuffs on the bolsters from getting in and out of the car.

The video shows a noise coming from the front right corner of the car. This could be related to a known issue with early R8’s where brake pads rattle in the brake calipers. However potential buyers will need to make their own assessment.

Summary

The Audi R8 is a timeless classic that still looks fresh and up to date today. This early Type 42 looks impressive in metallic black, with the dark grey side blades really setting it off. Its specification is also impressive with the optional extras adding to the whole package. The real cherry on top however is that 6 speed gated manual, giving you full control over the mighty V8.

Early production Audi R8’s are becoming highly collectable, especially those with the sought after manual gearbox and choice optional extras. This 2009 Audi R8 has wanted for nothing, has been maintained regardless of cost and is ready for new adventures with its new owner.
