A pristine looking example of the sought after 1000 R model of F4
Boasting a highly original condition complete with “disguised” pillion mount
A lightly used example with a mere 5,500 kms (3,417 miles)
German registration
The Appeal
The F4 is a powerful sports bike range which many believe helped to resurrect this high-end and historic Italian motorcycle brand. The F4 was conceived and designed by motorcycle engineering supremo, Massimo Tamburini who was also instrumental in the design of Ducati’s fabled 916. The F4 range arrived in 1999 and was produced right up to 2018, such was its popularity and success.
Our example is a 1000 R model, which was launched in 2007. It was heavily reworked compared to its predecessors with a significantly enhanced mechanical specification. Its powerful 170bhp power output and aerodynamic design resulted in it taking the record for the fastest production 1,000cc motorcycle, by recording 188mph plus at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
The History and Paperwork
It seems our example was supplied as new by MV Agusta in Germany
First registered in December 2009 and supplied at the start of 2010
The motorcycle is believed to be in its original ownership still
Our example is now resident in Paris
This has been a lightly used example having covered a mere 5,500 kms to date
This represents a miniscule 423 kms per year on average
Our example is complete with ample original paperwork
This includes the original German registration documents
A Certificate of Conformity from MV Agusta is also on hand
The original, boxed owner’s pack is also included
This comprises of various manuals and an original key fob
The Interior
The riding environment of the F4 1000 R is very sports orientated
The dropped bars and rear-set alloy pegs are all about optimising aerodynamic integrity
This configuration, allied to a deeply sculpted tank, help the rider duck out of the airflow
The small, but steeply raked, fairing provides some protection for the rider
The lucky rider is faced with an electronic display monitoring all functions
Turn signals, light controls and starter button are situated on the grip bases
The rider will also look over the alloy steering damper and adjustable front shock mounts
Twin, shaped but good-sized mirrors provide a good rearward view
The rider sits low on a supple, leather saddle
Alloy and machined foot pegs are provided
A “disguised” pillion saddle is provided above the rear wheel in body-coloured leather
Fold down foot pegs are provided for the comfort and security of a pillion
The Exterior
Our F4 1000 R is an impressive looking machine
Its styling is angular and modern looking, somewhat belying its age
Our example presents in the usual red and silver “Corse” metallic colourway
The red is confined to the top line of the bike
The silver paintwork adorns the rest of the motorcycle
Our example seems to have been adorned with a signature
This appears that it could be of designer Massimo Tamburini
The front of the motorcycle features a small headlamp
Indicators are recessed into the shaped wing mirrors
The angular front mudguard hugs the wheels and is finished in a carbon fibre weave
The rear of the bike has a futuristic look
A four-outlet exhaust system sits above the small, teardrop indicators
A two-piece rear light is flanked by a pair of air vents
The Brembo wheels are five spoke examples in forged alloy
These are finished in anodised, matt black
The rear wheel has a central void into which the supplied pit-stand fits
The overall external condition of our example appears exemplary
The Mechanics
The mechanical specification of the F4 1000 R was advanced and generous
It was another area in which the MV Agusta seemed to be ahead of its time
The revised 998cc, four-cylinder, four-stroke engine delivered around 174bhp
Brembo radial brakes were fitted, front and rear
These work against twin 320mm, cross drilled disks at the front and a single 210mm at the rear
Carbon nitride coated, upside down Marzocchi shock absorbers were fitted at the front
The rear, single Sachs shock is adjustable for rebound and compression
Our example has been lightly used and enjoyed
As such it is reported to be in a fine and fully functional mechanical condition
Summary
In many ways the F4 1000 R appeared like a little slice of the future. It enjoys an angular and futuristic design which appears much younger than it is. Make no mistake, this isn’t a case of all show and no go either. Weighing in at under 200kgs and with nearly 180bhp on tap, this is a seriously grunty machine. MV Agusta’s internal designation is the “312” as they claimed it would reach 312 km/h (roughly 193 mph).
Our example is lightly used, entirely original and ready to ride away. It is a really iconic sports bike and one that will almost certainly draw a crowd wherever you go. A rare and fascinating opportunity to become one of very few MV Agusta owners.
