The Background

There's more to the AMG Mercedes SLS than its retro-inspired appearance and incredible raw power. These hand-crafted icons were designed not simply to be the brand's halo product, but also created for its ease of use, comfort, and practicality. The result was one of the best Supercars ever made, thanks to its excellent build quality and bulletproof engineering.

Considered a sporting track-oriented car with Grand Touring abilities, the SLS was the first Mercedes to be designed and built from scratch by AMG. When it was unleashed to an appreciative public in 2010, It was lauded with the world's most powerful naturally aspirated production engine.

This stunning example of an early model SLS is being sold by a classic and bespoke sports car specialist. It comes with the desirable BeoSound Bang & Olufsen package, 5 spoke alloys and has full service history having received a full complement of stamps. With just 18K miles recorded on the clock, the car has also been pampered and cherished over its lifetime.

The History

This 2010 RHD car was imported via Macau into the UK in 2012 with around 3,000 miles on the clock. Upon reaching the UK, it was re-registered with a SVA/IVA certificate issued and declared fit for UK roads. It was thought to have spent the majority of its time in Surrey, covering roughly 12K miles over the course of seven years and receiving AMG Performance Centre servicing and maintenance. The car’s last owner has also maintained the strict yearly servicing schedule and health checks.

The Paperwork

It comes with full service history from Mercedes Benz and independent specialists, with additional paperwork to confirm recent accompanying brake and mechanical health checks. The car has not need any significance work in terms of its mechanical durability, with two invoices covering wheel alignment work and a pneumatic spring replacement in 2020.

The car saw some detailing work in 2017, which included paintwork decontamination along with almost 1.8K’s worth of ceramic coating to the body and wheels. At the same time detailing was carried out to the interior. Two new front tyres and the door struts have been replaced recently. The car has an MOT to July 2022 and comes with two keys.

The Interior

The interior is in outstanding condition, with no signs of wear or damage, and exceeds the expected cabin condition of an eleven-year-old vehicle. The interior is brightened by the well-sculpted cream Nappa heated leather seats, which are blemish-free with intact stitching and only the faintest hint of bolster wear.  The mats and carpets are clean and damage-free, and the door cards and headlining are in good condition, with no significant scuffing observed on the sill plates.

The beautiful black designo leather dashboard upholstery has worn its years well. The rest of the cabin and aluminium centre console controls are all all unmarked, with no signs of wear. All of the cars many electrical functions are said to be working, including the climate control, AMG instrument cluster and the optional Beosound Bang & Olufsen system upgrade with LED lit speakers.

The car also features the standard high specification of goodies expected in the SLS, which includes a phone hands-free function, garage door opener, reversing camera with 7” TFT colour display, voice control, keyless go and parking guide sensors. The AMG performance steering wheel, paddle shifts and gear lever are all in excellent condition.

The Exterior

There are no problems in regards to the structure of the car, with nothing negative to be reported underneath the car. There is no evidence of grounding, just the expected light scuffing on the front underside tray. The aluminium body shows no corrosion issues on the surface of the finish and the panels are good throughout, with perfectly fitting panels and equal gaps.

The rear offside corner of the bumper has a very light dent, but otherwise the rest of the car is in excellent shape. Those superb gullwing doors are well aligned and have also been recently treated to a complete new set of struts on both sides. All doors open and close without issues, with their respective door sealing all in tip-top condition.

The robust Himalayan grey finish gives the car an impression of granite-like solidity which complemented the purposeful styling. The paint coverage is even on every panel resulting in an excellent lustre. There is very little in terms of road wear noted on the paint, with perhaps just the odd minor blemish noted on the nose. There are minor imperfections noted on the windscreen -  these are literally tiny indentations rather than chips and are easily treatable. The rest of the glass is in good condition with no issues with good glass seals.

The lighting and lenses are in good order, and the body trim has the same well-kept appearance. The staggered 19” and 20” optional 5-twin-spoke alloys wheels are in good condition with no signs of kerb damage, although the spokes do show signs of paint imperfections. The Continental tyres are in excellent shape, all less than three years old with both front tyres being very recent fittings.

The Mechanics

There are no outstanding mechanical faults that require attention, and recent health checks and yearly servicing provide assurance that the vehicle has been effectively maintained. The 6.2-litre V8 engine has a reputation for durability, and there is nothing to suggest otherwise. It starts on the button, with no lingering warning lights, it idles well with no impediments in regards of the engine pressure or temperature.

No blowing or excessive exhaust smoke was evident. The car is said to drive well on the move, with no suggestions of problems with the ride, steering or suspension components. The dual-clutch seven-speed transmission shifts smoothly and provides a high octane experience as the engine reverberates through the blips.

The Appeal

The SLS was never truly replaced by the brand, generating an instant classic with great investment potential. It was the near-perfect blend of driver appeal, supercar performance, and superb refinement. The AMG SLS is a high point in both Mercedes and Supercar history, and it's unlikely that we'll ever see another Gullwing V8 supercar like this again, so this stunningly finished example serves as a fitting monument to the SLS's legacy.

Making a secure purchase on Car & Classic Auctions

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000+ £500.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
