THE APPEAL

Famously advertised with the slogan ‘’Grace, Space, Pace’’ the MKII is one of the most iconic sports saloons from the 60’s. Used by cops and crooks, the gentleman and the driver alike, these cars are a cocktail of class, sophistication and performance. This 1962 registered car has only had three owners in its entire life with the current owner having the pleasure of keeping this superb car in the garage since 1984.

Over the last 38 years restoration and regular maintenance have kept this automotive legend in great condition inside and out, with only the smallest of blemishes present. When it comes to classic cars, classic Jags are at the top in terms of desirability, importance and of course enjoyment and this MKII is vintage British Jag in all its glory, a sublime addition to anyone's driveway.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Vast collection of past paperwork
  • Past MOT certificates
  • Record of substantial work 2009/2010

This MKII was purchased in 1962 by the Watney Brewery, for the purpose of providing luxury transport for the Brewery owners and Watney family. Included with the car is the original service book, which records regular servicing records up until 1964/1965. Additional maintenance invoices for works carried out through its life are on file, with the majority being for its time down in Cornwall where it currently resides.

Two Cornish residents have had the pleasure of owning this fine car, with the current owner purchasing the vehicle in 1984. Over the course of that 38 year ownership the vehicle has undergone gradual restoration with a substantial amount of work carried out in 2009/2010 which includes mechanical work by specialist Rob Beere Racing and body restoration by a local classic car specialist.

THE INTERIOR

  • Great condition
  • Burgundy leather seats
  • Original dash and dials

A glorious blend of walnut and leather, the interior of this MKII is splendid. The seats were retrimmed to at some point in the 90’s but kept to the original maroon leather and condition wise they’re in fine order with only small signs of wear. The dash is sleek, polished and in good condition again with only a small bit of wear visible to the right of the centre console.

The beautiful switches and dials are all present and all reported to be in working order and the carpets are in fair shape with some wear visible and pictured. It's a real pleasure being inside one of these Jags, designed to be spacious and luxurious for those in the front and rear, wherever you find yourself will feel nothing but ultimate satisfaction.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Striking red paint
  • Chrome work in good order
  • Minor blemishes present

Finished in what we believe is Jags signal red, the exterior of the car is in fine order with only a few small blemishes which have been photographed. Chrome trim and bumpers are bright and fresh with only a polish required to get them back to sublime. The wire wheels are like newt, wrapped in satisfactory rubber.

There’s very little to complain about when it comes to this car. It's quite clear it’s lived a life being cherished by all who were lucky enough to have ownership and not neglected in any manner. These MK II’s are a thing of beauty from all angles, with beautiful flowing lines complemented by the tiniest chrome detail. A very tidy example of a superb car.

THE MECHANICS

  • 3.8L Straight-six
  • Rebuilt & tuned engine by Rob Beere Racing
  • Extensive work carried out in 2009/2010

On our visit the car was manoeuvred into position for the photographer comfortably and without fuss. The 3.8L straight six fired up and roared with pride, a truly fabulous noise that seems to infect all within earshot with thrill and joy. It ticked over easily, sounding substantial but effortless testament to the work carried out by Jaguar specialist Rob Beere Racing.

The car is used very little, spending most of its time tucked away in a garage but often it's taken to the local specialist for oil and fuel refresh, plus a check over, the last check being March 2022.

SUMMARY

Quite simply, the Jaguar MK II is one of the most important cars to ever hit the market. A car that was driven by both the gentleman and the deplorable but respected by all who understood the car's capabilities.

This is a fabulous opportunity to own a fantastic car that's only going to become more and more desired.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
