The Appeal

Daimlers have for a long time been the slightly aristocratic cousin in the Jaguar range, offering exclusive luxury specifications and choice drivetrains.

This car is no different. Presented in a classic colour scheme with a very high specification, long wheelbase and that iconic V12, it’s the ideal way to own one of the most handsome luxury saloons ever made.

The Interior

  • Beige leather upholstery
  • Electric windows and door mirrors
  • Climate control
  • Electrically-operated, heated memory seats
  • Radio/cassette system with CD autochanger
  • Individual limousine seats in the rear
  • Cruise control

Finished in lovely, high-quality beige leather with oatmeal piping, the cabin of this Daimler is a deeply luxurious environment. The leather itself all looks to be in excellent condition for the age, with only light signs of wear to the front seats, and no evidence of damage or tears.

Complementing the leather, thick pile Daimler Mink carpets run throughout the passenger compartment, with matching over-mats. They appear to be in superb condition. Likewise, the cream headlining is tight and presents well, with no damage and no sign of sagging.

The dash fascia, door caps, rear picnic tables, transmission tunnel and steering wheel are dressed with polished walnut, inlaid with gold detailing. It all looks to be in near perfect condition, with no evidence we could discern of cracking, warping or delamination. Similarly, the rest of the internal trim, switchgear and instrumentation is presented very well. Some of the controls show signs of light wear (only to be expected after 24 years), but everything is legible and looks to be in a very fine state for the age of the vehicle.

As this is the long wheelbase version, the rear compartment is very generous in its space. With individual ‘limo’ seats, it makes for a lavish and faintly opulent way to be wafted around in style.

We’re assured by the owner that all of the car’s controls and features function just as they should, with no issues that they are aware of.

More mundane matters are cared for in the boot, which is nicely trimmed with dark grey carpet. It features a spacesaver spare wheel, as well as being home to the CD autochanger.

The Exterior

  • Sapphire Blue paintwork
  • Original 16” alloy wheels

Jaguar’s X300 series, which the Daimler is based on, has always been a very handsome machine. With fine proportions and neat detailing, it still cuts a dash. This car is presented in a classic colour combination: deep blue over beige interior. It works beautifully and suits the car well, a neat light grey coachline running the length of the vehicle to further enhance its lines.

The paint itself is in good original condition. There was no evidence we saw of damage, corrosion or serious issues. Obviously, as this is the original paint, there are minor blemishes, small scratches and some minor stone-chipping, but overall we think the paint and bodywork is wearing its years very well.

Like all Daimlers, this V12 limousine is liberally showered with brightwork, from the sill guards to the mirrors, window surrounds and grille. It’s all in very nice condition, with only minor blemishes and pitting betraying the vehicle’s age. The rest of the external trim, lenses and glass areas are in very good condition, with no notable damage or exceptional wear.

This Daimler is still riding on its original 16” alloy wheels, which appear to be in good condition and are shod with Yokohama tyres which have good levels of tread on them.

The owner tells us that the underside of the vehicle is in very good condition, with no corrosion or damage.

The Mechanics

  • 6.0 V12 engine
  • 4-speed automatic GM 4L80-E transmission

As the last Daimler model to feature Jaguar’s iconic V12 engine, the Double Six is a rather special vehicle. That endlessly smooth motor churns out a respectable 318bhp and 353 ft/lb. Twinned with a smooth automatic transmission, it makes for the kind of effortless, and seemingly endless, performance that earned Jaguar the ‘Grace, Space and Pace’ tagline.

The owner tells us that the car drives superbly, accelerating smoothly and well, while handling and braking just as you’d expect from a big Jaguar saloon. With a comprehensive Japanese service history and, for age of the vehicle, relatively low miles, we’re sure this fabulous saloon has many more miles in it.

Summary

Benefitting from a tremendous specification and a great colour combination, we think this Daimler makes for a very handsome luxury saloon. It’s the kind of car that is massively luxurious without ever feeling too showy.

This model is presented in very good condition inside and out, with the wonderful V12 engine offering all the performance you could ever need. It’s a rare and truly lovely car, and is sure to become someone’s pride and joy.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
