Rare Horex Imperator 400.
From 1955 to 1957, only 4, 000 of these models were produced.
At the time, it was considered a highlight of German engineering.
The first modern parall two-cylinder engine with OHC control.
Its overhead camshaft was chain driven, invisible between the cylinders.
This type of camshaft control has been patented by Horex.
The beautiful engine in unit construction (at that time the English still built their motorcycles mostly with seperate gearboxes, which unfortunately always led to leaks in the primary area).
Furthermore, it came with an rear completly enclosed chain guard.
For lubrication, the chain runs over lubricating felts rivited inside the chain guard.

This Imperator features the optionally orderable full-swing suspension with Earles forks (a design patented by Earles in 1951 and first installed in 1952 on the 4-cylinder MV Agusta and in 1953 on the BMW RS54 racing motorcycles. These forks were installed 1955 - 1969 on all 2-cylinder BMWs and were also used in the construction of sidecar combinations.
