Vanden Plas 1500 Manual

Very nice condition, but not so nice that you are scared to drive it.
I've owned this car for nearly 6 years now and use it as my summer only fun car, going camping and attending classic shows when time allows. Although I have not had time to use it as much as I would like it has completed a couple of long journeys over 400 miles in a weekend, as well as occasional commuting and club runs, it has never let me down.
Always kept clean and serviced using modern oils.
This Vanden Plas is now tax and MOT exempt and on a run I get well over 40 mpg cruising at about 60 mph. Even using it for shorter trips in and out of town, commuting to work, etc it returns high 30s mpg. So running costs are low and spares plentiful.

It's surprisingly quiet when cruising along at 60 mph, the 5th gear helps.

This is a 40 year old car, and I will describe it honestly.
Mechanically the engine is very good, there is an oil pressure gauge fitted and it produces good pressure, hot or cold. It starts easily, runs smoothly makes no unwanted noises and pulls well.
The gearbox is good apart from the synchromesh on 4th is getting weak. Going up from third is fine, going down from 5th, needs care. It's a chance to practice your double de-clutch like the old days, or just go straight to 3rd.
I had one rear hydrogas unit replaced shortly after buying the car, as it was sagging a little. It's been perfect ever since.
Body work is above average, and it's metallic astral blue, but there are a few minor bubbles of rust and the odd chip here and there. This is fine on a car that is not driven in salty winter conditions as it never gets worse. If you want a show winner, this is not the car for you. People admire it where ever it goes, but show winners need to be 100% perfect. The wheel arches are all near perfect, in fact lots of it is very good, just not show winning perfect. It is 40 years old. It was treated with Ziebart rust proofer from new which turns out to have been a good idea.
The underside is excellent.
The interior is above average with no rips or splits in the seats and all original mats still in place. Some of the lacquer near the heater controls is peeling a little and the clock has recently stopped.
The original radio does not work, but I have a similar aged radio/ cassette which was altered to take an MP3 feed that will go with the car. It is not fitted, and you will need to get speakers.
So most of the car is either very good or above average.
I've been a bit picky with the description, just trying not to disappoint anyone.

Current mileage is 68800, but I am using it so this will increase very slightly.

I have a large box file with lots of history going back to the original receipt when the car was purchased new along with a few back issues of the owners club magazine.
There is also a small box of spare parts to go with the car.

It's very hard to price these, some seem to go very cheaply, but they are nearly always rotten and some seem to go for silly money, because there will always be dreamers out there. I've tried to be realistic, because I do actually want to sell it.

I'm in Wisbech, no problem if you want to come and take a good look round it.
This is a private sale. I do own a motorcycle shop, but this was paid for with my money and will be sold by me, not the bike shop.
Selling because I don't have time to use it much and could do with the space.

The Vanden Plas Princess was a luxury motor car in it day with its plush leather and walnut burr interior and 3 Litre straight 6 engine (same engine as in the sports MGC & also very similar to the engine fitted in the Austin Healey 3000). Fully restored 1300 Vanden Plas Princess. This is a manual version which makes it unusual as most were auto. Although MOT exempt it has an MOT until June 22. Not rot, great paintwork with a lovely shine and excellent chrome. The leather interior is original but in very nice condition. A lovely car ready to enjoy ...
