1968 Triumph Vitesse Mk1 2Litre Saloon SOLD

For sale is an exceptional Vitesse Mk1 2Litre Saloon in White (code 19) with a Shadow Blue (code 16) interior. This numbers matching Vitesse is undoubtedly one of the best saloons in the country, having been lovingly maintained and improved by its four owners. Originally purchased by a titled Government scientific advisor and decorated WW1 veteran, the car changed hands for the first time in 1979, and remained with the second owner for 37 years. The third owner and myself have spent significant time and money on the car over the last 5 years to bring it to the standard that you now see. The mileage is currently 114, 439 miles (but may increase), with the engine showing approx. 50lbs oil pressure at 800rpm tick over. The car is totally solid in all areas. Vitesse’s have been undervalued for years, but that has started to change as people start to realize what a superb car they are for the price.

This car is beautiful inside and out, having had an interior retrim, which included a Newton Commercial moulded carpet set in 2020 and a full respray in 2017. The interior has been further enhanced with a custom-made radio console (the radio is not connected and is for display only), which also houses the Kenlowe fan and overdrive switches. A separate custom-made under-dash console to the right of the steering column houses an oil pressure gauge and voltmeter. Sound deadening has been added to the front bulkhead and boot floor, and the under-dash area has received new custom- made cover panels. The list of upgrades to this car is extensive, it has been fitted with an overdrive gearbox, a stainless steel twin pipe sports exhaust system and tubular manifold (which sounds superb), High torque starter motor, K&N chrome filters, alternator conversion, optronic electronic ignition, alarm system, Kenlowe thermostatically controlled cooling fan with manual override, Evans waterless coolant, cross-drilled brake discs, inertia reel seatbelts, genuine Minilite wheels, Spax rear shock absorber conversion, spin off oil filter, slightly lowered front suspension, high level rear brake light, tow bar, polished aluminium rocker cover etc. etc.

The history file for this car has to be seen to be believed, and goes back to day one, including the original log book, service schedule book (fully stamped), manufacturer’s guarantee certificate, all invoices for servicing and repair, hand written and typed correspondence from the original owner, tax discs from 1988 to 2014 (1993 is missing for some reason!!), and uninterrupted MOT certificates from 1986 to present day, with MOT invoices for some years prior to this. I have also included some biographical information on the first owner. This car really is a one-off, and comes with a level of history that is near impossible to find elsewhere. I’m reluctantly selling in order to finance another classic car project, otherwise this car would be staying with me. The car is located in Grantham, Lincs, and as always it is recommended to view before buying.
