Description

Allow me a moment to set the scene somewhat: the year is 1964 and President Lyndon B Johnson is at the helm of the greatest nation on earth. Amidst many exciting events that year, we had the hit Musical “Hello Dolly” opening on Broadway, Disney’s Mary Poppins enjoyed overwhelming success at its world premiere, Muhammad Ali was crowned Heavyweight Champion of the World, and Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Americas personal wealth and employment had never been higher giving Americans a new found level of disposable income and the feeling of sheer optimism and freedom had never been higher. For Americans, life was indeed good.

It was by no coincidence then that the Ford Motor Company were bang on target when they decided to launch their new model in their stable: the Mustang. Fords General Manager at the time Lee Iacocca championed the exciting project through to fruition in a record breaking time and the name can be accredited to Fords Chief Stylist whom had an affinity with the WW2 Fighter Plane the P51 Mustang.

What Iacocca and his team deemed was needed in a bid to capture the countries new found optimism was a motor car which was highly exciting and a car that was highly affordable: up until that point exciting had meant expensive and thus out of reach of everyday purchasers. What Ford decided to do to was to build an exciting new model in terms of style and looks but to base it on existing well proven (and importantly currently in production already) underpinnings thus keeping the overall production cost and eventual owners running costs down to a minimum. However the real masterstroke in Iacocca’s plan came with the decision to launch the first ever “Personal Car” with a staggering array of options available meaning that customers could chose between a number of body styles and have the car finished in whatever colour they wanted with whatever options they wanted: the car would be individually built for the customer meaning the chances of two Mustangs being built exactly the same were very slim. This in itself made the customer feel exceptionally special because being able to personally build a car exactly the way they wanted was a direct expression of their inner selves and motoring dreams.

It is no wonder then that the Mustang absolutely smashed initial production expectations. Initial thoughts were that if Ford were to build 100, 000 per year they would be delighted with this, however in its first year the demand was so high that 400, 000 were produced and a million had gone on to find homes within two years - a staggering achievement and credit to Lee Iacocca and his teams dream. The car is as synonymous with America as the countries flag itself and can wear its reputation as being the original Pony car with pride - it had earned its Stripes well.

Bradley James Classics are absolutely delighted to be able to offer you here an incredibly special 1964 MK1 Ford Mustang 289 V8 with rare “Stick Shift” and finished in a quintessential and stunning colour combination.

725UYF was born on October 31st 1964 and rolled down the production line in Michigan Detroit with pride and was delivered to its lucky new owner in Oklahoma City in the Mid West a short time later. One can just imagine a beaming owner setting eyes on the car for the first time: their hopes and dreams perfectly encapsulated in the gleaming red machine stood before them safe in the knowledge that the car was exactly what they wanted and had been built just for them. It remained in the Mid West until 2007 by which point it required bringing back to her former glory. She was moved to Cansas City where she enjoyed a simply breathtaking frame off nut and bolt restoration to bring her to the condition we see before us today. An exorbitant amount of Dollars were lavished upon her and as a result subsequently enjoyed winning many certificates and prizes on the US classic car show scene based on her attention to original detail and her restorers having an eye for perfection.

Sat behind the wheel today is a direct time capsule back to how the car would have been when new and how the original owner would have experienced and enjoyed her. Attention to detail par excellence is key here. The car needs to be seen to be appreciated fully but the walk round video attached here gives a glimpse into just how good the car really is. There is lots of history and paperwork which accompanies the car from all stages in its life meaning that the lucky new owner has plenty of bedtime reading to gain a full insight into this cars fascinating life.

A very rare opportunity it is certainly not a car to be missed: if you are in the market for a classic American, or indeed specifically seeking a Mustang, then we are confident that this is the car for you. It will grace any car show that it attends, will attract much attention, and with the Beach Boys playing on her original stereo will make every sunny day outing something very special and memorable.

We sold this very car to the current owner and he has asked us to sell the car on his behalf. We know the car very well. Full Walkround Video Available on Youtube

We offer a very well priced full UK delivery service if so required, or we are based just a 5 minute walk from Overton Railway Station. The M3 and A303 major roads are just 10 minutes away by car.
