Saxo VTR Background:
During the late 90’s and early 2000’s in Citroen dealers across the land the smell of Lynx Africa hung heavy in the air. Throngs of boy racers were enticed like months to a flame towards the Saxo Vtr by a sub £10, 000 list price and Free Insurance. In the post Cosworth and GTI era insurance for anything even remotely tepid was eye watering for young drivers but the Saxo VTR came with 2 years free insurance. This masterstroke from Citroen made the Saxo the UK’s bestselling Hot Hatch.
However, hot hatches and an abundance of both hair gel and testosterone seldom make happy bedfellows and many VTR’s met their maker long before that insurance deal ended. Of almost 42, 000 on the road at their pomp less than 850 now remain according to how many left dot com. A worse fate met many of those who survived……….. Max Power. From Delta bodykits to neons or in some cases looking they had just ram raided Halfords the Saxo was a modifiers dream. Consequently, undamaged and unmolested VTR’s are now the stuff of legend. Provenance:

Built in 2002 to UK Specification it was supplied new on the 31st Jan 2003 by Citroen West London via Lloyds TSB ill-fated Motordirect scheme. The vehicle still bares their number plates and complimentary over mats too this day. The purchaser Miss Godwin had specified the vehicle in Arctic Steel Silver Metallic. She would go on to keep the vehicle for the next 19 years. Pleasingly she kept hold of lots of paperwork pertaining to the car including the original invoice, the original blue V5, pre delivery sheet, invoices, MOTs and even an original Equipment and Technical Specification brochure.

Offered with incredibly low miles supported by a fully documented ownership and service record with a huge array of invoices for maintenance this really is as good as it gets. The car is supplied with all booklets and instructions in the original book pack including the Key Code Card and Hang Tag. There is even an unused Citroen Assist sticker. All keys are still present along with the supplying dealer key rings.

Exterior:

The factory Arctic Steel Silver metallic paint is incredible with a deep glossy shine. The bodywork is fantastic and the panel gaps are even and totally original. The wheels are totally original and un-refurbished. The tyres are matching Michelins. All badges, glass and trim are original and unmarked. We believe this car has always been garaged and has never been used in the wet from day 1 and its condition certainly supports that.

Underneath and under the hood:

Perhaps even more remarkable than the incredible condition of the paint work and trim is the underside of the vehicle. It could easily have just rolled straight off the factory floor, with factory wax, markings and stickers still in place it is an incredible testament to the gentle use and care this VTR has received. The engine bay is equally impressive, totally standard and spotlessly clean.



Interior:

The interior is absolutely as new and a fabulous place to reside with the Delta cloth sports seats and iconic white Jaeger dials separating this VTR from the cooking models. The seats, carpets, matts and trim are absolutely factory fresh even the metal gearknob is totally unmarked. It would be reasonable to surmise that the rear seats have potentially never been used, the seat backs are certainly free from scuffing and the lever is as new both in terms of feel and finish. Pleasingly the factory Audio is totally standard, no six by nines in the parcel shelf for Miss Godwin.

On the Road:

Perhaps unsparingly given the low miles and impeccable upkeep it drives with a time warp tautness you that you could only find with a low mileage perfectly maintained example. Whilst the VTR only has 100hp in facelift form it has a diminutive kerb weight of just 920kg giving a top speed of 120mph and 0-60 in a smidge over 9 seconds. The traffic light Grand Prix is not where the VTR shines, it offers a superb lightweight, visceral driving experience that many more modern and often vastly more powerful cars simply cannot replicate.
