1963 Reluctant sale of much loved Morris Minor Convertible SOLD

Hi this is 'Milly' our 1963 Morris Minor 1098cc de-luxe, factory convertible / tourer, smoke grey, blue/ silver beige duo-tone interior in fabulous condition.

The car is a ‘transition model’, being produced between October 1962 and October 1963, as it has, for example the earlier style red rear light cluster, clap-hands wipers, and the later 1098cc engine, ‘ribbed’ gearbox and 8 inch front (drum) brakes.

The car was built on 28 May 1963, and went to the Morris dealership of Stewart and Ardern in Croydon where it was first registered as 9391 VB on 7th June 1963. It is one of only 689 Tourers made by the factory in 1963. The BMIHT certificate is included in the car's documentation.

We don’t have any history earlier than 1991 when it was registered to a Mr R Stanley in Solihull as DYY 427B with 20572 miles on the clock. The car was valued through the MMOC, when it was DYY 427B in 1992. When the previous owner bought the car in 1991, it had been assigned JSK 165 by the DVLA. The previous owner drove about 6000 miles over her 27 years of ownership. MOTs and service bills from 1993 onwards are available.

We bought the car in July 2019 and a comprehensive professional condition check was completed in autumn 2019 by a marque specialist, to identify any areas that needed to be addressed.

A clean bill of health was declared with regard to the body, chassis and running gear and only mechanical recommissioning was advised. A full de-coke was completed and the head converted to run on unleaded fuel. A gearbox re-build followed, to repair the synchromesh on second gear. While the car has been professionally undersealed when it was rebuilt in the late 1980s, it was treated to a thorough wax-oiling in 2019.

Five new 155 tyres were fitted after the wheels were painted to match the body colour and glovebox lids fitted instead of the open dash cubby arrangement. Front inertia reel seatbelts have been fitted along with a dual oil pressure and coolant temperature gauge.

Further improvements have been made to improve reliability including a new electronic fuel pump and larger capacity battery. Halogen headlamps, new front indicator/ side light LEDs, new rear tail/ stop and indicator LEDs have been fitted for improved road-presence.

Rear side-window and front quarterlight rubber seals have been replaced. Blue/ grey ‘Furflex’ period door seals have also been fitted. The rear seat was removed, cleaned and re-sprung and the rear trim panels, front kick-panels, rear and front parcel shelves all replaced.

The front Armstrong dampers were replaced in 2022. Recently the brake master cylinder, the 4 front and 2 rear brake cylinders and brake hoses have been replaced.

At every show or event we've been to we've had lots of interest in the car with many comments of admiration from fellow car enthusiasts. The car is very cute and irresistible and we're sure the first person to view will want to buy.
