We are grateful to the vendor for providing the following information:

“Rolls-Royce 20/ 25 chassis GED36 is a D series, ‘long’ chassis with ‘C’ steering. Following factory tests, the chassis was despatched to London coachbuilders Thrupp & Maberly on the 9th June 1934 to receive an enclosed 6/ 7 seat Standard Limousine body.

The new body was finished in black with white fine lines and the interior upholstered in beige cloth to the rear seats, brown leather to the front and brown carpets. Wheels were Dunlop Well-Base with Dunlop Fort ‘Silent Tread’ tyres. Five black Ace wheel discs and white fine lines were also fitted to the wheels. A rear luggage grid (type 6) was also specified along with concealed door hinges, vent to scuttle top, offside spare wheel carrier, Cobra horn, road tax disc holder, pull-up handles, triplex glass, traffic indicators, interior sun visors and. Lighting was provided by Lucas BB170 headlights with side lamps on top of the front wings plus a combined stop/ taillight. In addition, a Klaxon wiper and driving mirror were also installed and the door lock was specified with the same key as the ignition switch. The car was also one of the last fitted with the favoured Rolls-Royce carburettor rather than the later SU type.

The new car was sold via London dealers Pass & Joyce Ltd to its first private owner, a Mr. Israel Isaacs of 2 Eton Avenue, London NW3. In 1935 ownership passed to Lt. Colonel A. S. Cleaver, also of London, before being purchased in 1940 by a F. W. Collins of Bilston, Wolverhampton. A continuation buff logbook and invoices from the time confirm the car was in the ownership of a Mr. Metherell of Upminster, Essex from circa 1964. There are several invoices on file from Rolls-Royce, Willesden dating from 1964 along with multiple MOT certificates from 1961 to 1983 when it was placed into storage for nearly forty years. A tax disc from 1983 is still displayed in the windscreen.

Rolls-Royce factory records confirm the body, engine, gearbox and rear axle are the originals and consequently represents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine barn-find, original and unrestored example.”
