2009 Royal Enfield 500 Electra XR
Bereavement sale on behalf of widow who does not have an ebay account.
Only 1675 miles from new, this rare machine was cossetted by its late owner and is in immaculate condition. The 500 Electra XR was marketed as a limited edition cafe-racer and this is the actual machine developed by Watsonian Squire, the then official UK importer of Royal Enfields, for display at the 2007 Birmingham NEC show. A letter from Watsonian to the owner confirms this.
The machine was pre-registered by the supplying dealer, the Shropshire Motorcycle Company, in January 2009 and purchased by the owner in May 2009. Since then it has been used for the occasional sunny-day jaunt. Due to his illness, it is believed that the owner put the machine on SORN last December. V5C is present.
It is believed that only 70 or so bikes were built to the XR specification. Modifications included: alloy tank and racing seat - the latter with revised subframe, gas-filled dampers, rear-sets, improved instrumentation, restyled side panels, smaller indicators, Dellorto carburettor, swept-back exhaust with free-flow goldie type ‘silencer’ and modified airbox/ fllter. The engine is the improved AVL ‘leanburn’ type with 5-speed gearbox. This is the final series of Enfield engines prior to the introduction of fuel-injection.
For ease of use, the owner fitted a Hitchcock-developed kick-back prevention device together with an improved sprag clutch for the starter motor. At present the bike is fitted with a Hitchcock Amal carburettor conversion kit, however, the original Dellorto unit and modified airbox will also be included in the sale.
