1973 RHD Jensen Healey SOLD
We bought Vicky 5 years ago to fulfill our dream of driving a classic convertible sports car to Italy and back for our honeymoon. And oh boy, she did not disappoint! We drove through the alps, around the lakes, up and down terrifying coastal roads - all the while half expecting there to be the odd breakdown, but in all honesty she was faultless and drove a dream. The engine is a Lotus 2Litre, 16 Valve, twin cam, 140bhp engine. Running on twin Dellorto carbs, it likes to be driven at 5000 revs – as you can imagine it’s a lot of fun with the noise to match!
If you want the thrill of a sports engine, the kudos of a soft top, the tight handling of mini all for sub £10k then this is the car for you. We have absolutely loved driving her and creating unforgettable memories, but with a toddler and another on the way we cannot justify keeping a 2-seater as she doesn’t get used (a handful of times in the last 3 years!!). It pains us that she has sat in the garage unused for this long, so it’s time for someone else to continue her story!
The Good:
- New Battery fitted this month
- New throttle cable fitted this year
- New fuel hoses fitted this year
- Replaced and uprated alternator when purchased
- Recently tuned on a rolling road and carbs balanced
- New rotor arm fitted
- Full gearbox rebuild last year (comes with original gearbox if wanted plus spares)
- Soft top in good working order and condition
- Tyres like new in good condition
- Original UK made right hand drive car
- Oil and filter replaced regularly
- Kept in a dry garage
- Cam belt, tensioner, plugs and leads all replaced when we purchased her.
- Uprated shock absorbers all around
- The interior upholstery is original in good condition with no tears
- Electronic ignition
- Brakes are in good condition and work well
- Comes with workshop manual and parts diagram
The Bad:
- Bodywork is a bit tired in places showing it’s age – see photos
- We have been advised that valve guides could do with replacing as the spark plugs are getting oiled up. We have been managing this by keeping an eye on the oil and cleaning spark plugs before long trips.
- Driver’s window mechanism has a quirk to wind up and down – nothing major you just get used to it
- Original radio on dash looks cool but doesn’t work.
So all in all, Vicky is an honest example of a piece of rare British motoring history. An exceptionally fun and drivable car, she gives some serious bang for buck. We are sure her new owner will have a huge smile on their face every time they venture out.
