1959 Rover P5 Automatic Saloon For Sale

Registration Number: 262 JPB

This Rover P5 3 Litre car was manufactured on 21. 01. 1959, 262 JPB is the oldest surviving Rover P5, with automatic Borg Warner transmission, as verified by the Rover P5 Club and the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. Chassis number 6309-00020 makes it the 20th automatic model off Rover’s Solihull production line. Over the years the car has become known as ‘Reggie’

This regarded Rover P5 has a good ownership history over the last 63 years, across its seven owners. Sold from Henlys of London in February 1959 to its first owner who kept it until March 1962, here the Rover remained with Mr and Mrs Crew for the 22 years until 13. 12. 84. The third owner (unknown) kept the car as his daily driver for 16 years. The 4th owner John Lamb used the car as a wedding car until 2010. It was acquired by the Stondon Motor Museum where it was on show for many years before the museum was closed and all the cars were sold at Brightwells auction.

The Rover changed hands between owners 6 and 7 in 2018. Owner number 7 spent £4470 on 23. 11. 2018 on a refurbishment of engine, automatic gearbox fluids, exhaust, ignition and fuel systems, brakes, including new master cylinder, suspension system, cooling system including new water pump and recored radiator.
I purchased the car on 01. 12. 2019. Included in the purchase price were over 2k worth of brand new spare parts as supplied by Wadhams. These included, inner, and outer sills, door seals, windscreen rubbers, adjustable shock absorbers, stainless steel exhaust, to name but a few. The car was very solid in the bulkhead, inner wings, floor pans. The engine is strong, refined and runs smoothly. I spent most of lockdown fitting all of these components. In addition the car was resprayed.

This car originally came with front drum brakes but had been updated with disc brakes, front seat belts have been added. Electronic ignition assures easy starting and is a practical upgrade. The red leather front and rear seats have been upgraded as have the carpets and boot coverings. Trim coverings that have faded in the sun over the years have been recovered. The 117bhp keeps the car up to the speeds of modern day roads. The under- dashboard tool kit is complete with a full set of original tools. The owner’s handbook from the 1950s comes with the car. Reggie gets a positive reaction as a 1950s car on the roads today and is ready for its next owner to enjoy.
