1973 Spitfire MkIV – Chic Doig Restoration/68k Miles For Sale

Spitfire MkIV – Chic Doig Restoration/ 68k Miles

The Triumph Spitfire was introduced at the London Motor show of 1962. The stylish body was designed by Giovanni Michelotti with running gear based on the Herald. The Mk IV introduced in 1970 had the stylish “Kamm Tail” rear similar to the Stag and TR6, modified suspension providing better roadholding and a more luxurious interior then any of the previous models.

Milestone Classics are delighted to market this lovely and very original Mk IV Triumph finished in Mimosa Yellow with original black interior which we sold earlier this year and are absolutely delighted to have back to market again – we always buy our cars back because we know they are good – due to a change of circumstances.

The Spitfire has spent most of her life in Dunstable. Initially registered as a demonstrator with Dunhan & Haynes in 1973, the car was retained by then first keeper until 1980 and the next owner for over 40 years until he reluctantly decided in 2021 to let her go to a new home to be use and enjoy.

Restored by Chic Doug over a two-year period in the 1990’s just about every part of the ’Spit’ was inspected and replaced as necessary. Today the car still presents extremely well with excellent panel gaps & very good paint work - the true test of any restoration.

Although in very good order the new owner recommissioned the car during 2021.

Work included:

·   Rebuilt Gearbox (Competition Transmissions)

·   Steering (bushes, rack mounting kit etc)

·   Brakes (overhauled & hoses + front new springs)

·   All underseal removed – lovely yellow tub/ black chassis

On the road the car does not disappoint with strong mechanicals giving an utterly engaging drive.

The history folder contains previous registration documents, invoices since 1977, every MOT (since 1976), correspondence and pictures from the Doug restoration and contemporary literature.

When a car has covered under 1, 000 miles since full restoration, drives superbly and looks great with excellent paint/ panel fit 30 years after the original work was completed you know that the job was done properly.

Milestone’s drive thousands of miles looking at hundred’s classics. This is one of the nicest Spitfires we have marketed, and we recommend early viewing in order to fully appreciate this remarkable Spitfire.
