The stunning and flamboyant coachwork fitted to GLG25 was produced by Barker and is believed to be the sole example fitted to the 20/ 25 chassis (two similar bodies were fitted to Derby Bentleys). The car has affectionately become known as ‘Lady Grey’.

This car has simply spectacular lines and proportions. The Powder Blue paintwork enhances its chrome fittings, while the low roofline and airline tail give the car a very sporting silhouette. The rear wheel spats complete a stylish and almost futuristic appearance.

Inside, the car is newly trimmed in red hide and carries a stunning chrome dashboard as originally ordered. This includes all the usual instrumentation and makes for a very striking interior, matching the presence of the exterior coachwork. Interestingly, the rear seats fold to allow for addition luggage space and the rear screen opens to improve ventilation.

The first owner was Mrs. Henry S. von Berge, the wife of an American businessman, also reported to have commissioned a yacht called ‘Jeanry’ from Lowestoft in the 1930s. They had the car delivered new to Paris, but by 1938 the car had returned to the UK with no further ownership details until 1956 when Edwards & Sons were listed as owners until 1983. Subsequently, the car was owned by C. O. Day who sold the car in 1994 via Sothebys to Sir James Cayzer, 5th Baronet and one of Scotland’s wealthiest men. Sir James was an avid Rolls-Royce collector who kept GLG 25 until his death in 2012. The current owner purchased the car via P&A Wood in 2013 and has since invested some £35, 000 in improvements to the car, much of which was carried out by ourselves.

Included in the car’s history file is a period photograph (likely taken for Barker) showing the car when new. Its appearance is exactly as the car presents today, with the exception that the car now carries two spare wheels, a modification not carried out in recent years.

On the road, Lady Grey performs very well, benefiting from recent works and an overdrive. The car is very original, being an older restoration and presents very well. This is a standout 20/ 25 which draws interest and admiration wherever it goes.
