Most of you reading this will know most of what I’m about to write but hang in there, I may slot in the odd gem.
The 500GB TT was an expression of the confidence Honda had reached by the eighties while at the same time being an homage to the British racing bikes of the fifties and sixties. The café racer lines are hugely reminiscent of the old BSA’s and Nortons.
This is a particularly fine example of the first generation, from Japan. (Later models were made for export.) It comes in glorious deep metallic maroon. It has been lovingly looked after and in recent times had a new DID chain, ethanol-proof fuel pipe and UK spec indicators fitted. The carb has been rebuilt and it had a service and new air filter. Inside the tank is clean and it comes with a genuine toolkit and two keys with a bespoke “GB500TT” keyring. There is an adaptor under the speedo so it now reads in miles.
Above all, though, the condition of this machine is exceptional. Both cosmetically and mechanically superb. It has been carefully maintained over its 38 years. (Note, the VRN is a D prefix which is 1986-87 but the frame number and dating certificate confirm it is from September 1985). It is not concourse - please see the photos and video – but it is in really beautiful condition, one any collector could be proud of. We can supply more images on request.
