1970 Moto Guzzi V750 Ambassador Police

Here we have a genuine police-specification 750cc shaft-drive Moto Guzzi, as used on the West Coast of the US by the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department. Such machines had numerous modifications over standard including: wide, sept back handlebars; police dash with extra lights and switches; spotlights; Dietz turn signals; front and rear crash bars; heel and toe shifter with floorboards rather than pegs; large capacity fuel tank with screw-on cap; ignition switch mounted below the saddle; extra-long ride-away stand; wheel-driven B&M friction siren. The matching numbers example on offer has been the subject of a total nut and bolt restoration, during which ‘every single part was either rebuilt of replaced’, since when ‘TAW 266H’ has travelled less than 50 miles. It was repainted in its original black and white paint scheme complete with hand pin-striping. The fuel tank has been sealed with POR15 and Japanese switchgear added for the lights (the original Italian CEV items are included in the sale). The vendor currently considers the Guzzi to be in ‘absolutely wonderful condition’, and is now selling it complete with 1971 photo of an identical bike being used by the LAPD, the original import paperwork and a photocopy of the last US title document.

This motorcycle has been entered into Hampson Auctions’ Gold Cup Classic Vehicle Auction, which will be held at Oulton Park Circuit, Little Budworth, Tarporley on Sunday 30th July 2023.

Viewing sessions will take place from 9am – 7pm on Friday 28th July and from 9am – 7pm on Sunday 29th July, with the auction itself commencing at 12pm on Sunday 30th July, and you are very welcome to join us there.
