This original RHD Triumph TR3 has been with its last owner in Bude for the past 18 years. Over this period the TR has covered over 15000 miles is an excellent quality older restoration that’s ideal for regular use and touring. The TR3 spent its early years in Zimbabwe and was later imported into South Africa and spent many years in Pietermartizburg before coming over to the UK requiring restoration in late 1991/ early 1992. Photos on file on arrival in the UK with its South Africa plates show the car TR looking relatively healthy but the car was taken to marque specialists TR Bitz in Cheshire for a full strip down and restoration.
Between 1992 and 1994 the TR was completely stripped and rebuilt, the body was removed from the chassis and a huge file of invoices detail a major program of work with the TR specialists. The bodyshell was sandblasted, panels were acid dipped and the shell rebuilt with new floor pans, inner and outer sills, rear quarter panels, boot floor/ valance panel and a new front valance. The bodyshell and panels were completely re-painted in arguably one of the most popular TR colours, and today 30 years on the paintwork on the floor pans still gleam. The fully rebuilt shell was then fitted onto a completely rebuilt chassis and the TR3 built up with rebuilt braking, suspension and steering systems, a rebuilt overdrive unit and completely overhauled mechanicals. Whilst TR Bitz carried out the majority of work including many parts, a comprehensive file of parts invoices are present from Cox & Buckles in Birmingham. The Triumph was built up with many new trims and fittings, the interior renewed and new weather gear fitted.

Since restoration the TR3 has been continuously maintained, kept on the button and has also been maintained cosmetically. The large history file details paintwork due to chips and blemishes caused by regular use, and mechanically the car has been improved with new shock absorbers, various bushes and pins, water pump and thermostat, Kenlowe fan, hi-torque starter motor, complete new wiring loom, new clutch and ring gear, regular maintenance to the braking system and bead blasting the carburettors and manifold, then carrying out a full carb rebuild. The TR3 has been used for shows, rallies and fine weather use in the South West. It's a very well presented car, the chassis is excellent, the bodywork and paintwork of a lovely standard and the nicely aged upholstery whilst re-trimmed over 30 years ago, gives the feel of a well-kept, honest and original car due to its careful use since restoration. The engine bay is nicely kept, as is the boot compartment and on the road the TR3 won't disappoint with a strong, fit engine holding very good oil pressure, smooth overdrive gearbox (upgraded TR4 gearbox) and having been regularly serviced and maintained, the road holding and braking feel excellent. This is a very well presented, strong older restoration that been superbly well maintained since its very much high quality, professional restoration.
