Description
Fiat 500D Trasformabile Classic / 1962 / LHD Italian * SOLD - SIMILAR STOCK REQUIRED*
This highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, full length convertible sunshine roof - ‘trasformabile’, ‘round speedo’ along with the original matching 110D engine - In fact it has it all!
It’s an original LHD Italian example having only had a small number of owners from new & was manufactured in 1962 at the Fiat Mirafiori factory in Turin.
Purchased many years ago by the elderly owner Aldo whom being 81 years young, decided that the time had come to let the loved little Fiat find a new caring owner. He & the car resided in A Rocca San Casciano, a truly beautiful spot that I have visited personally, located in the Emilia –Romagna region, between Bologna & San Marino.
He sold this highly original & truly unmolested time warp example in 2015 to the reputable classic car dealership Nuova City Motors S. r. l in Piancezza, Turin. They in turn fully recommissioned the vehicle prior to offering it for sale.
We are told that basically everything that was required has been reconditioned or replaced correctly, but with the aim of keeping it as original as possible. So in brief: The structure & floors were checked & found to be in excellent condition. The engine & gear box were overhauled & clutch replaced. The interior was also fully and expertly retrimmed in the original colours of green piped cream along with the complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed, including the roof frame, all other items of interior trim were refurbished as required. The correct aluminium surrounds were polished, all new rubber items were replaced including the door seals, window & side window seals, complete brake system overhaul, recon starter motor and a new exhaust & brackets.
The bumpers & brackets were polished, the original steel wheels fully shot blasted & painted. The car was also fully painted whilst stripped at this time in the original beautiful shade of Fiat Verde Chiaro (363).
This is one of the nicest time warp 500D’s we have offered & better than my own example. It looks & feels period correct & unmolested. As the dealership had excellent Fiat 500 knowledge & understanding of the correct parts & original detailing, this time warp example was in an exceptional state.
It was then purchased from Nuova City Motors by an English car dealer as an investment in January 2016, but was never UK registered. He did spend £650. 59 (Receipted) in June 2017 on a full service & MOT, new kingpins, new spring bushes, new track rod ends to name but a few items.
The car was never driven however & was just squirreled away in his showroom, until we got to hear about it & struck a deal with the canny owner.
When in our possession the first time in April 2018 , we were meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Conducted a full external, glass out repaint to show standards as the little chap had picked up a handful of storage scratches over his travels & the Italian paint work was not to our higher UK standards. Removed the engine & fitted a new premium Italian full clutch kit. We also tested the motor, fitted new gaskets as required & painted the engine covers & engine bay whilst the motor was out on the bench.
We fitted 4 new premium Pirelli tyres with new white wall spats & 4 new hub caps, nuts & washers. Fitted a new windscreen as the original had light scratches on it with a new windscreen rubber. Removed, flushed & painted the fuel tank. Fully painted the boot compartment whilst the petrol tank was removed.
Fitted a new battery along with new front & rear premium chrome bumpers. Fitted a new exhaust system, brackets & gaskets. Fitted the correct D engine decal set, spare tyre strap, jack straps, rear seat strap, engine cover plate, chrome wing mirror, sun visors, heat shield pad, adjusted the steering geometry, supplied a fresh MOT (2018) and conducted a multipoint check, replaced the fuel with £25 of new super unleaded, fitted a new carb, set the timing, fitted a premium coil, adjusted & cleaned the brakes & gave the cheeky little chap a full service (plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc) just to be sure!
We gave the underside a professional clean & a very thin coat of Wurth premium underseal – spray gun applied. Fitted a new boot mat & 500 Key ring. ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper.
We then sold this splendid example to its new London based owner in June 2018. He kept it in his underground car park & used it lightly, but on a regular basis. He cherished the little Fiat & only sold it back to us after 6 years of pleasurable ownership due to relocating to the UAE.
What’s more, he had it serviced & maintained on a no expense spared basis with local specialists Enginuity & R. Proietti lavishing believe it or not over £10, 000 on it in his tenure ship. All works are receipted in accompanying history file.
Now having purchased it back, we have just put it through our workshop & conducted the following works: Fitted a new accelerator cable, cleaned the carb & tuned, undertaken a small service with fresh oil & fuel filter along with new plugs. Undertaken a multi-point check. We have also refinished the speedo & steering wheel along with fitting a new period correct over mat set & new white wall spats.
The car has collected some very minor paintwork blemishes whilst being in the owner’s underground carpark, But we decided they weren’t bad enough to repaint them & to keep it honest & true.
This beautiful example is eminently usable & it drives as good as it looks & is showing circa 53, 000 KMs from new – believed correct but not warranted.
The vehicle comes with the original Italian log book, past UK MOT certificates, Aforementioned invoices & specialist parts invoices from Ricambio International Ltd.
The car looks fantastic however & is probably one of the best examples in Europe, for the price asked in the most desirable colour combination. It has been maintained regardless of cost. This is a collector’s opportunity and a superb investment and has only driven low KMS since its full overhaul & hence this cheeky chappy is being offered for sale for the second time on our shores.
Fiat Vede Chiaro (363) (light green) paintwork with a green/ cream interior, including matching door cards & a full length convertible sunshine roof, with matching 500D belt to hold back & associated clips.

Fiat steel wheels refinished, with hub caps & all shod with matching tyres & new white wall spats.

As we are a Mercedes Pagoda and R107 specialist we are always happy to part exchange one of these type of cars or indeed any classic car of excellent quality, so please don’t miss this most fastidious example of the iconic Fiat 500D. This vehicle is exceptional value, try & find another as original & tax exempt – Please remember ‘you get what you pay for’. Our cars are handpicked by a marquee expert & we turn down 8 or 9 out of every 10 cars offered. The cars we sell, are we believe the best of their type & are here to be viewed & driven in the UK. This takes the gamble out of buying a car direct from Europe sight unseen. Our stock comes fully de-registered from the country of origin with the ACI fee paid, UK MOT’d, test driven, serviced & detailed. Don’t confuse them with other cars on the internet which have had dubious restorations & are offered with a low asking price. We have had 2 clients bring such cars to us recently bought direct from Italy & both were severe MOT failures with a list of faults ranging from no reverse gear to an undercarriage that requires total replacement. You have been warned! There is always a reason why a car is being sold cheaply! Again ‘you get what you pay for’…
This vehicle is we believe the best in Europe don’t settle and ensure you view this stunning example…
