American apparel designer and vintage streetwear enthusiast Sean Wotherspoon took inspiration from Volkswagen’s short-lived Volkswagen Golf Mk 3 Harlequin Edition in creating the colour-block exterior of this one-off Land Rover Series II ‘Art Car’ developed in collaboration with British customiser Jimmy Howson and his Stuff by Spot outfit.
Wotherspoon rose to notoriety in the fashion and vintage streetwear space after his creative take on the Nike Air Max 97 won a Nike design contest and went on to become one of the most popular limited-edition trainers of the late-2010s. Its vivid colour palette and unusual materials are hallmarks of Wotherspoon’s personal style. Spurred by this success and a YouTube vlog series focused on his vintage streetwear store Round Two, Wotherspoon went on to collaborate with Adidas and other brands. In 2023, he partnered with Porsche to develop a Taycan art car, its interior lined in corduroy, cork, and recycled fishing nets, while the multi-colour exterior was finished in bold hues that Porsche added to its Exclusive Manufaktur Paint to Sample service.
Wotherspoon first teamed up with customiser Howson and his Stuff by Spot project in 2025 after meeting California-based venture capitalist Phillip Sarofim, a noted petrolhead whose collection includes the Aston Martin Bulldog and Lancia Stratos Zero by Bertone. Sarofim commissioned Wotherspoon to customise his rare 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2. 7 with the help of Howson. Like the Taycan, it featured a colour-block exterior and interior reupholstered in vintage denim, plaid, and corduroy, with the dashboard lined in cork material reportedly left over from the Porsche Taycan project.
The one-of-a-kind Land Rover offered here was also executed in Wotherspoon’s signature kaleidoscopic style and plaid patchwork interior, once again overseen by Howson in his Stuff by Spot shop from March to July of 2025, completed with the help of a specialist workshop in Essex. The left-hand-drive Series II was fitted with new 16-inch Wolf wheels wearing BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/ A tyres and a modern stereo head unit with Apple CarPlay integration. Once finished, the car was shipped to California and displayed at Monterey Car Week in August 2025.
The Land Rover has since benefitted from having the clutch refurbished and a new release bearing and master and slave cylinders installed by Tommy’s Motor Co. of Essex in January 2026. Given its uniqueness and artful execution by a well-known streetwear designer, it would make for a notable collection piece.
