1976 Triumph T140 750 tidy, MOT ready to ride. SOLD
Very nice usable condition T140 which has been restored some years ago. It's not over restored to better than new condition, this is a bike to ride and enjoy rather than trailer to shows and keep in the living room.
Matching frame and engine number showing at least most of it is original.
Frame appears to have been very well painted (or possibly powder coated) some years ago, there is no corrosion or rust and it has a good deep shine. Similarly the tank is free of scratches and dents and has obviously been resprayed to a high standard at some time in the past.
The chrome on the mudguards and headlight is less than perfect with a little pitting. If you really wanted to you could either have them re-chromed or get new items, but I have left them as they are as it adds a little character and stops it looking over restored.
Both the rev counter and speedo have a mind of there own, waving frantically to indicate you are moving, but not very useful for telling you the actual speed. I did a little research on various forums and apparently this is to be expected. To be fair on a flat road with no bumps and a steady speed they do settle down and tell you roughly the correct speed. I have added a digital speedo to the bars driven neatly from the rear wheel so I know the proper speed. I was tempted to just replace the clocks, but it seems a shame as the ones fitted are the correct original clocks for this year of Bonnie so I assume they are the ones it left the factory with.
Both wheels have nice alloy rims and stainless steel spokes which saves a lot of cleaning.
The gearing is higher than standard making it a relaxed cruiser at 60 to 65 mph.
Freshly serviced with 20w50 semi synthetic oil, valves set, clutch adjusted and carbs balanced.
It will be supplied with spare service gaskets for the oil filter and valve covers as I have plenty.
There are probably a few incorrect parts on this bike, I'm not a Triumph expert and I do not claim to know exactly which washer was fitted to which bolt in which year. The bike is for riding. It's 40 years old, things get changed over time.
It drips a little oil just to let you know it's British but only a few drops, not a massive puddle every time you stop. It seems to get the same MOT advisory every year for slight fluctuation in brake pressure on the brake roller test, but I just can't feel in on the road. If you find it bothers you a new British made disc can be found on line for under £50. 00. Pretty much all parts for these bikes are easy to obtain and prices are very good.
First registered 21/ 01/ 1976 and recognised as a Historic Vehicle on the V5C so no road tax to pay. The rules are going to change in May 2018 so from May it will not require an MOT either.
The current MOT runs out 10/ 10/ 2018.
The speedo, which I assume is original indicates it has covered under 26000 miles, and old MOTs seem to back this up, but at 40 years old no one can be certain this is the genuine mileage.
It has modern electronic ignition so great spark. It starts easily, pulls well and the clutch, brakes, electrics, etc all work as they should. It doesn't burn oil, or make any strange noises and I would happily ride it the length of Britain if I had the time.
I do not believe the registration is of any great value, but the V5C does not indicate it is non transferable, so it could be transferred if you really wanted to. This also indicates it is almost certainly the original registration number and has always been a UK bike.
I am not offering delivery and you will need to collect from Wisbech PE13 5JG. You can arrange a courier if you like, but the bike will not be released without full payment. You are very welcome to contact me and arrange to come and see the bike before the listing ends.
