Description
This car is in regular use, drives really well, has been well maintained and not abused. The colour scheme and Sport trim means it is still a very attractive car and gets regular compliments despite the fact that it is not perfect.
Both myself and the previous (lady) owner of 10 years have found the car to be totally reliable, it goes well and has not been smoked in etc so you still get a very luxurious feeling when driving it, this car has signs of age but it is definitely not banger fodder and, with a little work, will give years more service and pleasure…. And should appreciate in value too.
Mechanical:
3. 2 6 cylinder engine 214bhp, starts instantly, runs perfectly, no smoke or rattles. Has full service history to back up it’s excellent condition.
Gearbox likewise does everything it should and in fact all the mechanicals of the car appear to have no faults whatsoever… exhaust, battery etc all good, a tiny oil weep on the cam cover is the only sign of age and has clearly been like it for years.
On the road the brakes work well, suspension is quiet, no noisy bearings etc.. all is as it should be.
Body:
There is lacquer peel on the roof and little bit starting on the bootlid, parking damage to both LH bumper corners. Very slight denting to the LH rear door but you don’t really notice it as overall the car still looks really nice for it’s age. The wheels look OK, some corrosion but not disastrous, tyres are OK and should pass another MoT. There is a blister of rust on the top of the RH rear wheelarch but that is the only visible corrosion, however I do know it will want welding to the very fronts of both sills for MoT.. not a difficult job but realistically I haven’t go time to do this at the moment
Interior:
The colour scheme is fantastic, cream leather, charcoal carpets and dark wood veneers… it is a very comfortable and very nice place to be. The car has had no pets or kids in it and not been smoked in so the car still retains a refined luxury feel. There is a hole in the RH bolster of the driver seat which you don’t notice when driving and the headlining has drooped… there are experts who can sort it but I don’t feel the need.
Electrics: clock has stopped reading, drivers window switch can be a bit tricky but can be closed every time, otherwise all the electrics work fine, locking, windows, lights etc etc, it’s quite amazing how this car has survived.
There are 2 keys with remotes (although these are unreliable), a folder with all the bills and history, handbooks etc etc
The MoT expires 11th June but the car remains fully functional and safe to drive, as far as I know (and I have looked around it quite carefully) only the welding is needed to pass another MoT. These cars are criminally cheap and most at this price are wrecks, this car is NOT a wreck… XJR versions are already sought after classics and the Sport is a very similar looking thing but without the additional complexity of the Supercharger, you get a great classic Jag feel from driving it and it’s definitely a classic in the making.
