Welcome to the website of the The Congleton Beartown Classic and Vintage Car Club. The club meets at 8pm on the first Monday of each month (bank holidays permitting) at the Bull's Head, Newcastle Road (A50), Smallwood, Cheshire, CW11 2TY.

The Congleton Beartown Classic and Vintage Car Club was formed in June 1999. The founding members, Harold Gilman and Robert Worthington were Congleton based classic car enthusiasts who both needed to travel considerable distances from their home town to join active car clubs. While attending a local event on a windswept and rain soaked field, they realised that most of the vehicles on the field were from the Congleton area. Convinced that enthusiasts from the area could benefit from a local club, Robert and Harold put the wheels in motion. Their suspicions were justified when between thirty and forty prospective members turned up at the inaugural meeting to enrol. The rest, as they say, is history.

As time has gone by, the annual membership usually stands at 120 or so but this equates to well in excess of 200 classic or vintage cars in preservation.

The club attends local and regional events and rallies and also hosts local events. On the social side, the club has visited car factories such as Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Peugeot, and MG Rover and numerous transport museums and private collections.

In September each year, the club stages a large barbecue where members eat for free and guests are charged a nominal amount. For the past few years, the barbecue as catered for well over 200 people on the day. The event doubles as a car show with up to 100 members cars on display.

The club membership includes public liability insurance for show attendance. Many members have spent a lifetime in the motor industry and as a result, a wealth of experience based advice is available to members undertaking restoration or repair. The club can arrange vehicle storage and runs a discount scheme for classic insurance with market leader Footman James.

In addition to event and rally attendance, the club is very proud to have raised considerable amounts of money for local charities over the years. Each year the club stages a static display within Congletons town centre on the run up to Christmas to collect funds for local good causes.

The monthly meetings ( first Monday of each month ) are held at our headquarters, the Bull's Head, Smallwood, in a large and private function room. It is not unusual for more than half of the membership to attend!
