The Appeal
Some Cobra replicas are all about the show, and while that’s a key component of Gardiner Douglas’ take, these cars are about much more than those sculptural looks. Built using original AC tooling and featuring a race-derived tubular backbone chassis, semi-monocoque body, independent double wishbone suspension and, of course, a grunty 6.2L LS3 V8, these Cobras are arguably better than the real thing.
The Mk4 developed the idea, adding more purposeful, pumped-up styling, notably with wider arches, and raising the scuttle and deepening the cockpit to provide more interior space. This one was completed in 2017 by the previous keeper and is correctly registered with DVLA as a Gardiner Douglas with a ‘GD’ prefix chassis number. It is a really pretty car, nicely detailed and finished in dark blue metallic with a grey racing stripe and matching mohair roof and interior. The vendor tells us that the LS3 motor is good for 500bhp and is mated to a 6spd manual gearbox. Useful comfort features include heated grey leather seats and a USB socket. image.png5.51 MB
Since completion, its pair of keepers have covered just 3,700 miles. The car is therefore in really good order with few signs of age. The MOT history supports the mileage and shows no fails or advisories through the years. The current test runs to April 2027. Always stored in a heated garage, this sparingly used, low-owner car looks a treat.
The vendor says:
“It’s totally amazing to drive with over 500bhp. Seriously quick car.”
