The Appeal
The HJ60 Land Cruiser cleverly walked the very fine line between rugged, utilitarian go-anywhere truck and comfortable, long-distance people-and-load lugger. Well engineered, especially its 4L H2 straight six diesel engine, it was guaranteed to keep going too.
Such is the workhorse nature of these well-regarded trucks that few survive, and likely of those not many will be as good as this one. Built in the final year of HJ60 production, it is a really nice, unmodified and highly original two-keeper GX.
The vendor acquired it in 2017 and has continued the first keeper’s tradition of sparing use and careful dry storage. Similarly, he has maintained it well, operating what he described as a ‘no expense spared’ approach that involves replacing anything that is needed and undertaking regular servicing irrespective of mileage.
The result is a very well-preserved Land Cruiser in fine working order. Even the interior presents well, helped along by specially sourced hard-wearing seat covers. The lengthy MOT to April 2026 reinforces the sense of a very tidy, highly usable classic 4x4.
