Peugeot 406 3-litre V6 Coupe 2001.
Nice example of a very stylish Pininfarina coupe. Only 115, 000 miles with full service history, three long-term owners before me, MoT until May 2023. Fitted with the more desirable manual gearbox and later 207HP 3-litre 24-valve V6 with variable valve timing, it is extremely quick but still very refined - the Peugeot V6 is a real underrated gem. It also rides and handles very well indeed for a large-ish front wheel-driven coupe. Body is very tidy and straight with no visible rust anywhere - I had most of the paint blemishes professionally tidied up only recently - and the MoT was renewed in May, along with part of the exhaust system. It’s not a perfect example - the driver’s seat bolsters are a bit faded and the piping on the seam needs reattaching but there are no rips or tears. There are a couple of minor knobs missing, one from the electric passenger seat adjuster, another from the sun visor and the display for the radio is difficult to read but not impossible. The fixes for most of these small items are available on line or via the 406 club which is an essential move if you are going to own one of these. The car has been stored for a few months and the brake warning light has just appeared but it pulls up just as it should, so it could be a sensor. I bought the car about a year ago to use as a sporty retro daily, mainly because they look so good and go so well, but I have reluctantly concluded that a two-door coupe is not practical every day, although I’m still tempted to try. The 406 Coupes are something of a sleeper in the Classic Car world and are definitely appreciating. There are very few of the V6 manuals on the road in the UK. I’d prefer to sell but might trade for something old or interesting, cash either way.
The car has been owned by three long term owners and there is full service history plus some bills for other work carried out. Recently MoT tested.
The paintwork was recently tidied where necessary and overall the car is smart and presentable without being concours.
The interior is showing signs of age. The driver's seat bolster is faded in places and the piping needs reattaching, but there are no obvious rips and tears. There are one or two minor knobs missing - one on the passenger's seat adjustment, and another on the sun visor attachment, plus the bezel on the inside driver's door handle is missing. These are apparently common items and are available from the usual sources, which I will attempt to do before the car sells.
The engine is very good, smooth quiet and extremely powerful and the clutch and gearbox all work as they should. The forward part of the exhaust system was replaced for the MoT, the rest was fine. The car has been parked up in a dry barn since the MoT was done in May and the brake warning light has come on but the brakes pull up well and appear to be be working correctly.
