Top of the range RHD 1975 Mercedes 280 CE W114 “Pillarless” / 8 Coupe with very low 54k miles showing, fully working electric sunroof and period-look Retrosound Bluetooth/ Hands-Free audio system, finished in silver with blue interior and whitewall tyres. A car that provokes admiring comments and thumbs ups virtually every time it goes out. Completely ready to enjoy for the summer and beyond.
This is a powerful 185hp electronically injected 2. 8L 280 CE, distinct from the carburettor 130hp 250C and the other junior models in the range.
Purchased as a good runner in 2019 with little paperwork following a full RAC inspection (report available), the car was reportedly imported from Australia in 2016 (UK registration date). There is indeed a small Australian road service sticker on the window. It was in storage from 2016 until 2019, when I had the vehicle comprehensively recommissioned by a classic car restoration specialist firm which has regularly maintained it since then. It has been kept garaged, fuelled on E5 petrol and used about weekly on dry days since 2019. I am reluctantly selling due to a change of circumstances.
I am comfortable with any prospective buyer arranging a full RAC or AA inspection.
Let’s talk about things a prospective buyer needs to be aware of.
The bodywork is in generally very good. However, there are a small number of corrosion spots on lower panels which should be inspected and will eventually need work.
The interior was reportedly re-upholstered in 2017 and this still looks excellent. The dash does have a small number of sun-cracks which depending on the buyer will be seen as either cherished patina to be retained, or a surface that needs to be recovered (either possible). As with many examples of these models, the door map pockets are missing - I am including in the sale one factory replacement pocket I found online which would need to be sprayed and fitted – not a big job and there is a comprehensive step by step YouTube video online. Not hard to find another one if you want both original pockets.
I cannot think of anything else which negative. So, the good stuff:
Starts and drives beautifully.
Mileage absolutely believed genuine.
This coupe comes with comprehensive paperwork from a single specialist classic car specialist firm documenting the recommissioning and maintenance since 2019, including pre-MOTs. There is also a documented km to miles odometer conversion by the restoration specialist (with photographic evidence).
MOT and road tax exempt, cheap classic car insurance easily available
Last pre-MOT (MOT without certificate) documented March 2024
Original accessories such as first aid kit, rare manual sunroof winder key (not required as powered sunroof works), original service stamp book which I sourced separately (no stamps)
Downloaded copy original user manual included
