Offered for sale is my 2003 Jaguar XJR, finished in Zircon Blue over Sand/ Sable two tone leather interior. As the R variant, it is powered by the AJ33S Supercharged 4. 2L V8, producing 400hp and 400lb/ ft of torque. The XJR was Jaguar’s answer to the Teutonic executive missiles of the S55 AMG and 750i, offering supercar power in a luxurious package.
I have owned this car for 6 months. I always intended it to be a short-term purchase, a 30th birthday present to myself and to scratch the itch of owning a supercharged V8. In truth, for the roads and driving I enjoy, a small 2 seat roadster would suit my needs better, thus my XJR is now looking for a new home.
The car benefits from the usual suite of standard equipment including power adjustable seats, headrests, steering column and pedals; full leather upholstery; burr walnut veneers; 6 speed ZF automatic gearbox; XJR specific seats; XJR specific air suspension; 4-Pot Brembo Brakes all round and 19” XJR wheels.
In addition to the standard equipment, this example is also specified with Xenon headlights, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable thigh and lumbar support, and a power rear window blind.
The good bits:
• Full service history with a folder of receipts
• Two keys, V5 in my name
• Clean MOT with no advisories until September 2026
• Fresh minor service
• Recent gearbox service
• Rear subframe cleaned and undersealed
• Records of previous supercharger service
• Recent ABS module replacement (common fault)
• Recent water pump & expansion tank replacement
• Both front wheel bearings recently renewed
• Recent discs and pads all round
• Recent new battery
• 4x good Uniroyal RainSport 5 tyres
• Walnut veneers in excellent condition throughout
• Good leather with very minor wear – no rips/ tears/ holes
• Full set of Jaguar rubber floor mats
• Full tool kit and unopened Jaguar First Aid Kit (can only assume this contains ingredients for a stiff G&T)
• Earlier AJ33S V8 without troublesome VVT system
• A box of assorted spare bits and pieces for the car
Now for the bad bits:
• Alloy wheels need refurbishment
• Drivers’ side electrochromic door mirror is stuck in the “dark” position (self-darkening mirrors for night driving). Replacement mirror units are inexpensive to buy if this bothers you enough to want to fix it!
• The usual bits of aluminium corrosion on the bodywork – not especially noticeable and no worse than average for an X350 XJ
• Headliner beginning to sag in places – common issue
• Some light scuffs on the plastic lower door and seat trims from feet rubbing
• Occasional issue with self-parking on the wipers, caused by wear to the carbon positioning track inside the wiper motor. Seems to resolve after parking up for a short time for now. Not an expensive part but a fiddle to access.
In summary, this is a mechanically solid XJR that can be enjoyed as is. I have priced it competitively given the known minor issues I have honestly listed above. In have done a fair bit of work in my short ownership to ensure that any mechanical issues were addressed, hoping it will give dependable performance to its new keeper.
This would be an ideal car for someone who wants to live out their Supercharged V8 executive barge dreams, with contemporary 911 Turbo/ Ferrari 360 rivalling power, on a reasonable budget. A little money spent on the wheels would have it looking as good cosmetically as it is mechanically.
Test drives will be subject to proof of fully comprehensive insurance. Alternatively, I am happy to take a prospective buyer on a decent length test drive and run the car through its paces. Payment shall be by BACS transfer, with cleared funds in my account before the car is taken away. I will transfer the V5 online in full sight of the buyer.
