Description
In 1963, while Alfa Romeo and Zagato were collaborating on the fabulous Giulia TZ1, light and agile, Alfa perceived the potential of a genuine high-end sports car based on the 2600 and its new twin‑cam inline six‑cylinder engine.
After several months of development and numerous interventions by Alfa Romeo’s commercial department, Zagato’s designer Ercole Spada presented at the 1965 Frankfurt Motor Show a final version combining a futuristic front with rounded lines and the rear characteristic “Coda Tronca”. In three years, only 105 examples would be built.
This example, sold new in Belgium and certified by Alfa Romeo Classiche, comes from the collection of Zagato’s Brand & Heritage manager. Magnificent period black-and-white photographs dating from 1975 show this 2600 SZ in the seaside resort town of Knokke.
The complete file accompanying the car traces the precise history of successive Belgian owners and includes an exceptional photographic report of its “nut and bolt” restoration, returning the car to its original configuration while preserving the very handsome black vinyl interior.
Recently, this Alfa Romeo has benefited from a repaint and an engine overhaul carried out by long-standing Zagato specialists.
Zagato’s own factory has used this perfectly preserved model to promote its modern creations during comparative photo shoots, highlighting the distinctive traits of Zagato design.
DriveCity, the Belgian specialist in classic cars, is proud to present this rare 2600 SZ of Belgian origin and hopes to see this timeless and avant-garde beauty join the garage of a true Alfa Romeo enthusiast.
